Windows RT Support?

Hi all,

I've recently been using a Windows RT device for work, which supports 99% of the work functions I need (Salesforce, MS Office, Skype/messenger, virtual meetings etc), however I was disappointed to learn that Marketo has functionality issues with the IE10 browser on on RT.

While I was able to login to my instance and the UI loads, I found I was unable to click on any asset icons on the left-hand navigation, and therefore unable to load anything or do any work in the system through the RT device.

I know that Marketo works for IE on WIn7/8 so I am confused what the hangup is on RT?  Does anyone have any familiarity with this issue, or know if there are any plans for a Marketo RT app or sorts?

Looking forward to feedback!

Windows RT and Windows 8 actually use slightly different Internet Explorer installations depending on if you launch it from the Metro interface or if you launch it from the Desktop interface.

Have you tried using IE 10 from the RT desktop? Does it make a difference? The Metro interface typically gets detected as a mobile browser instead of a desktop browser and that can cause issues. For example Flash will fail to load on the Metro IE, but works fine from the Desktop IE.

Hi Jordan, thanks for the post.

I did try both versions of the browser (and actually did try the desktop version first, for precisely this reason).  As a matter of fact, both versions of the browser were equally nimble in terms of logging in to the system, but  I can tell you that I did receive an actual error message from the browser when attempting to load the marketing activities tab, and assets in it.  I know that Microsoft has prescribed a "flash whitelist" of sorts to the RT version of IE - does the Marketo UI use flash in any way?

I don't have the device with me now, or I would attempt to trigger the error so I could tell you exactly what it said.  Perhaps I can take a screenshot of that later and post it here - that may help discover the issue?

Marketo doesn't use Flash, that was just an example of how the interface differs from the Desktop to Metro.

Sure, if you can trigger the error I can take a look, but IE 10 isn't officially supported just yet. I'm sure it's only a matter of time. Currently we officially support 8 and 9.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like there are any alternate browsers for RT just yet either.

Thanks for the reply - I'll definitely get a shot of the error msg on this thread tomorrow AM, as I'm very interested whether there is a native RT/IE10 solution to the issue currently.

It is a bummer, though, that RT doesn't support Chrome or Firefox yet, as that would have been a quick fix; not sure if it will ever either.

Here is the Marketo error I receive from my device when attempting to load the Marketing Analytics tab.

I notice in the screenshot above that my browser is being seen as "using IE6 Win".  Not sure if compatibility mode is causing an issue here, also not sure if that's something I can alter while logged in?

Anything else I can upload here to provide more insight?  Let me know, looking forward to replies here!

Hello Nathan! The error you're seeing is affectionately referred to as a "Band-Aid Error" because of the crossed bandages. It could very well be compatability mode causing a problem or it could be IE 10 causing the problem. Because neither 6 nor 10 is officially supported there might not be much more we can do.

Try turning off compatability mode or changing the compatibility mode to IE9 and see what happens there.

With the web page open in desktop IE10, press F12

Click on the “Browser Mode” menu, then Select the IE9 Compatibility View, and close the debug view by clicking the in the corner.

This should let you change between IE 10, 9, 8 and even 7. You can come back to it at any time by pressing F12.

Thanks Jordan, sounds interesting, I'll give that a try and see if it doesn't correct the issue.  If I do have some success with that solution I'll report back here!

Hi Jordan,

For any potential future Marketo users on RT: I'm happy to report that adjusting compatibility mode to IE9 does solve most of the functionality issues I was previously experiencing and I can now affectively access the Marketo interface on the desktop version of the browser!

Thanks very much for your feedback, I am pleased that this workaround solved the problem!

Not a problem Nathan! I'm glad it worked out!
