"Forward to a Friend" Functionality

"Forward to a Friend" Functionality

Currently if a email recipient forwards that email to a peer, their lead information goes with it.  I'd like to see this fixed - lead information should not go along with the email.

if you would like to talk to the Marketo Product Management and Design team regarding forward to a friend and social sharing in emails, please send an email to cheryl@marketo.com.

I would like to schedule a session where we can discuss your requirements.

It's been nearly a year and a half since the original post stating that this was being planned (See Glen's post on 11/23/10). In July it was slated "to be delivered by the end of the year".

Cheryl, at a minimum, I need the ability for someone to forward the email and have the cookie stripped out so that when the person who recieves the forwarded email reads it or clicks a link, Marketo doesn't track that person as the original recipient. I've got sales reps that are forwarding eblasts all the time and it's really skewing our tracking results as well as generating a lot of erroneous data in Salesforce.
Please give us this piece of functionality so that we can stop fouling up our data (first do no harm). Then move on to the rest of the forwarding features: social sharing, tracking the forwarding, etc.

+1

My organization needs this functionality as well - our current Marketing Automation vender offers this and we have seen very good results.

I don't understand what's so difficult about setting up a forward-to-a-friend landing page, that takes the email ID from the f-t-f link, let's them enter a name and email addy, and then on submit would create the new lead and send them the email with a newly-generated tracking id that would drop the right cookie if they clicked through on a link.  Why is this so tough?  What am I missing?

CraiGrrr - what you suggest would work, functionally. But in practical terms it's not realistic. The sales team will not take the time to utilize this process when they can simply click 'forward' in their email program. And I would not expect them to, this is an issue that can be solved with a technical solution, not a work-around.

I guess I don't see the difference from clicking fwd vs. clicking fwd to a friend?  One click either way, one email addy to enter either way...

CraiGrr -- Your workaround is a good solution. I hadn't thought of it before. Thanks!

CraiGrr -- I tried your forwarding plan, and came up with a flaw. When click the F-T-A-F link on the email, the form on the landing page is, of course, prefilled with my info. So I change the info to my friend's info (really another email of mine) and click send. But now my web visiting activity is tracked as if I am my the "friend" and shows up in Marketo under the new lead, not my old lead info. How do you work around that?
