Option to Text Only Emails

Option to Text Only Emails

We would like to have the option to send text-only emails as a blast, due to issues with deliverability with HTML, as well as to make an email look more authentically like a sales email. I'm aware that this would effect our ability to see opens in reporting, but it would still be good to have this option.

Reading through all of these ideas is really depressing.  We're a new customer of Marketo.  I had assumed - and was even told to some regard - that many of these ideas/requests were already part of the solution (forward to a friend that includes unique tracking links, renaming of folders/files, flexible landing page templates with the same features as email templates, etc.)... And now this.  Every email service provider I've used in the past had the ability to send plain-text emails without sending the HTML part.  Most email clients ignore the plain-text version anyway, so it's pretty much useless when sent as a multi-part email.  Please Marketo, consider this for a future release (sooner, rather than later).  In today's environment, deliverability is such a challenge - if recipients can't receive/read your emails, all of the other bells/whistles are useless.

Plain text email is a requirement for us. If we have to, we can send our own (on behalf of our clients), but we would much rather
have an integrated solution.

On that note, the automatic conversion from HTML is pretty bad, particularly in discarding any links that are present in the HTML. While image refs must be discarded, text links can be easily migrated.

I feel this the ability to honor a contact's text only preference is a must-have for Marketo. Many companies block tracking pixels and a text only message would be a great work-around without giving up tracking for the rest of your database.

Also keep in mind that the link within the email is not trackable - it's just the actual URL with no tracking code.  So you will not be able to measure email clicks nor will you be able to know who the user is unless you have them complete some type of form on the landing page.  But I agree, this capability of a true text email only is sorely needed (especially when certain companies'/organizations' have super strict email filters - like governement agencies and contractors).

I love this idea - we definately have clients on our mailing list who would appreciate text-only emails.   Sign me up!

@Dan S  --  if you use a landing page that is specific only to that email then you should be able to divide the count of  visitors to that page against the size of the list delivered to determine click through rate.  Won't be measured nicely on the email performance report, but should be doable.  Maybe if true text emails are implemented, Marketo could also have a place to input the landing page URLs specific to that email and then do the click thru calcualtions for us??

And assuming the email recepients were tagged/cookied before you sent the email, then you should also be able to score/segment on the click throughs regardless of the fact that the URL does not have tracking code on it.

Is there any update on this? When we signed up for Marketo I was told I could send text only emails - but at this stage we can only send HTML with the option of a Text only version. Could someone please advise?

Thanks
