When using Marketo par example with the CRM tool Salesforce.com (SFDC) we got in trouble when we started to use Forms on websites: Data filled out by the customer can be different fromm the data we captured already in SFDC and was overwritten by the Form fill out!
Workaround
We created such called Shadow Fields in Marketo with a subset of automated routines to let the flow go but without overwriting SFDC data fields. We only send out a message or Task to the lead owner that the customer filled out a Form and that that data is different form the data we have in SFDC.
I think this setup should be automatically be available in Marketo instead of building this approach by our own.
