Marketo Sales Insight Performance - Reporting

Marketo Sales Insight Performance - Reporting

I would love to see a set of reports around the usage and performance of Sales Insight emails. This will allow me to have a dialogue with my sales team about which email templates are resonating with our market. Right now I can measure emails sent by marketing, but it would be nice to have an aggregate (and detail) report of how the Sales Insight templates are doing.

Well, it's 2014. So I guess it didn't make it into Q4 2013. I will add that while I understand that it's not something you get in Salesforce either, not everyone is moving from Salesforce. We moved over to Marketo from Act On, and Act On did provide this functionality - for example, a rep could look at th results of all email activity.

So now I'm getting asked why Marketo doesn't do this, and it's a bit frustrating to find Marketo lacking a feature available in a much lower-end marketing automation solution. Let's hope this makes it out very, very soon.

It's embarrassing how bad the Sales Insight functionality is. I have gotten to the point that I no longer make any effort to encourage sales to use Marketo to send emails. Not only is there is no ability for me to track results, but when a sales person asks 'show me how I can see who has opened or clicked in the email I sent' I run for cover. There is no answer. The issues are legion: reps can't create custom views in the Email tab in Sales Insight; no email analysis reports include sales insight emails; smart lists require that you specify the subject (the subject??) of the sales email in order to build a filter based on opens and clicks, sales reps can't modify and save their own version of the templates I create. And on and on.  It's appallingly bad.

I've also received complaints that there is no option to CC people when sending emails, and there is no way to select all contacts on an account level to send an email at once. Would be great if these features were added when the other upgrades are made.

Agree, internal pressure around MSI is increasing for me too. Lack of basic analytics is causing me to fight constant battles with the sales team against adopting another email tool for sales.

For now, I turned on the "activity" information for sent, opened and clicked activity for Sales Insight emails and have been able to pull reports in Salesforce based on Activities/Task reporting in Salesforce.  I don't know if this will work for all of you; but it is a work around for the time being.   I would however like to see reporting for Sales Insight Email sends provided from Marketo; rather than rely on work arounds.

Any updates on this?

Does anyone have a way to A/B test sales templates in the meantime?

Audrey,

This isn't exactly a lightweight solution, but you could A/B test sales emails by building them as campaigns rather than just a published email asset. In other words, Create a smart campaign that sends an A/B tested email in Marketo, with the trigger action as "Campaign is Requested". Then have your salepeople send the email through the "Add to Marketo Campaign" option instead of the "Send Marketo Email" option.

It's a pain because you have to build a smart campaign for each email, but it should allow you to A/B test!
