Dynamic Segmentation of Email Send Times

Dynamic Segmentation of Email Send Times

Much like how you can dynamically segment subject lines, sender display names etc, it would be nice to segment send times.

I am building a nurture program in the engagement program and want to segment based on my language segmentation, but the problem is if I do that then the send times will be wrong for most of the people who will receive it.

Great idea Pierce.

Make also look at including days into this as well.

The weekend is Friday/Saturday in some countries in the Middle East.

I would like this, but there are some work arounds. Create a smart list per time zone (just start with 3: EMEA, US, APAC). Or you could even use Field Organizer for this, by adding countries to the groups. In your batch master campaign always schedule  for 1am. Now in your flow set this:

1. Wait 3 hours (e.g. =4am CEST, but 10am China time)
2. If member of list APAC, Send email
3. Wait 6 hours (e.g. =10am CEST)
4. If member of list EMEA, Send email
5. Wait 6 hours (e.g. =4pm CEST, but 10am Eastern US time)
6. If member of list US, Send email

However enoyingly you need to do this for every campaign. But if you have like an example program, which people clone to start their program (which I think is best practice) it would already be in the flow.

In the same way you could also set the times as tokens on the progra or even folder level.

Diederik, how would you do that using the engagement program?

Hi Pierce, Well that might be a bit more challenging. I just noticed you posted this in the category "Engagement Programs". Sorry that I've missed that.

My first thought would be is to use a strategy similar to Adam Waterson's (to randomize send day). You would only need to set the cadence to "Pause" on start and to "Normal" on the desired time. However that wouldn’t work.

My second thought is not to use emails in the engagement programs, but to drag-and-drop smart campaigns in to the stream instead. The smart campaigns send out the email. There you can use the same setup I mentioned in my previous post.

A small addition: I would really set the times as tokens on the folder level. This would enable you to quickly change it on 1 location. Else you would have to go through each campaign.

Per Pierce's original submission, when we discussed it, it would be nice to be able to either off of a field parameter or segmentation (like the suggestion by Diederik) or by the ability to see when people tend to open/read emails systematically and send during an appropriate window to the end-user for improved chances that they will read the content (i.e. the person always opens our emails in the evening - therefore, send in the evening).

Thanks,
Brigid
