Clear Cached values for Picklists

Clear Cached values for Picklists

Marketo caches values for faster searching in fields. This is great, and certainly speeds up the database. However since we're technically not natively synced with any CRM, we don't get the official field values in our drop down boxes. So for my industry for example, I have every crappy version that anyone has ever typed in this field. From 0005763 to FinServ to Financial Services / Insurance. It would be really great if I could purge the cached values so that only the proper values show up.

This is one of the most requested features from my users, they find it really confusing to look at the drop down and chose Financial Services/ Insurance vs Financial Services / Insurance vs Financial Services/Insurance.

I believe if you have SFDC natively synced you won't have this problem at all, because Marketo reads the values from SFDC, but without a native integration I have every value that has ever been inputted into that field.

Adam, you're right about picklist fields synched to SFDC - the drop down list in Marketo show the latest SFDC picklist values for that field.

Cached!!! Interesting.
I thought it was always showing me the bad taxonomy on leads/contacts in my 'deleted in SFDC' bucket.

So how often do Marketo refresh the catch?

Good question Edward!  The tech asked me provide him the link to this discussion, so he can get more input about what they need to do on a broader scale.  Hopefully he'll add a comment here shortly.

Edward I'm pretty sure the answer is never. haha I have values in the system that I had in my system the day I started at this company 2 years ago. They have never been removed. It would be great if I'm not able to set up at a fieldmanagement level the picklist values, instead just a manual refresh of the values contained. It would really help my team not chose poor data (time & time again)

Here is what Jim Lam at Marketo tech support had to say about cached picklists.

Marketo is not caching those values, it is actually reading it from the lead database.

The picklist for fields actually consist of values that leads entered into a form. So if someone filled out a form with a Company name of MKTO instead of Marketo, MKTO will always show in the picklist as long as that lead is present or still has the company MKTO. This applies for all picklist values except for the ones that are pruned - https://community.marketo.com/MarketoArticle?id=kA050000000L5XJCA0.

Whether you call it Caching, or you call it previous Data values, it substantially remains the same. It doesn't matter to me how the values appear in the picklist, just that this is an idea to better manage that.

Here are the Industry values in my system. This is everything available right now. 17 values.

If I go to a lead view and press the drop down button, I get 31 values.

I get now that this list is being pulled from every current lead's past & present values, but I'd like a way to be able to purge that old data from the system. I have 14 junk values that aren't helping my data hygiene. It confuses my endusers and adds complications.

I completely agree that it is undesirable to have old values that have been changed shown in the drop down list of Lead and Company Attribute filters' values.  These are more appropriate to have in the Lead History filters.  BTW - I voted for this :0)

I am looking to add functionality to our "clear" button.  We have a field that is being populates, and the value is sticking, even when the clear button is pressed.

Any help?

Thank you
