Ad campaign - landing page tracking

We have a few websites on which our ads will be posted. When the user clicks the ‘learn more’ button, they’ll be brought to a landing page we made on marketo.

What we’re trying to figure out is how we go about tracking which platform/website the user came from.

We have a few different ads. Would we need to set up separate tracking links for each ad on each site? (ex. Ad #1 on one specific website, another for ad #2 on the same website, etc.). Further, is this something we’re able to track in marketo at all, since they’re external sites?

Thank you!

Re: Ad campaign - landing page tracking

Definitely different UTM parameters. Typically you would also do it per creative type (each ad), so you can differentiate on which is more effective, but you certainly don't have to.

Overall this would be based on your UTM parameter and measurement strategy overall rather than anything in Marketo necessarily. But many businesses chose to have a hidden field in the form automatically grab that info from the utm parameter in the link, and populate that in the person's profile for analysis later on.
