We scheduled about 7500 emails to go out @ 5pm yesterday (8/11/15) and I'm still seeing around 1500 emails pending. I cannot determine what is wrong.
Why are there so many emails still in Pending 12 hours later?

I believe Marketo is still attempting to deliver those emails. I've seen large amounts of emails pending up until about 24 hours after the original send date.
Try refreshing the results, just in case. But likely what's going on here is that the emails are soft-bouncing, and Marketo is still trying to deliver those emails. I believe they will continue to attempt to send up to 24 hours, after-which if they are unable to deliver, they will be tagged as bounced.
If that many are still pending after 24 hours, it may be worth opening up a case with support.

I agree with August. Here's a post about the same issue from a while back, but Marketo says the same thing.
I would open a support ticket if they are still pending 24 hours after the initial send.
