What is the difference between "Leads by Month" Report & Running a "Lead Was Created" Smart Campaign?

I am trying to figure out how many "new" leads we are getting each month. A second step would be to figure out what programs/smart campaigns drove the creation of that lead. I know a lead is created when it becomes "known". There is a report in the Analytics tab, under Lead Reports called "Leads by Month". However, when I run a Smart Campaign to figure this out, I add the "Lead was Created" filter in past "30 days" and add them to a list. The numbers don't jive/match with what shows up as our # in the Leads by Month report. Any clue why these are different?

We also have Revenue Cycle Modeler/Analytics/Explorer - would this be better accomplished in there? What is the best way to get this information each month and report up to leadership? Thank you!!

Hi Joy,

I recommend using a Lead Analysis report in Explorer because it has additional smarts built into it.  It takes the earlier between the Created At date in Marketo and the Created Date in Salesforce.  You can also create a monthly subscription for this report.
