SOAP vs REST API

We are trying to build a tool which helps us to integrate the Marketo data using Marketo API to other application.

Going forward what API does Marketo *recommend* its users to use? SOAP or REST? 

At this point REST seems to have a very limited functionality(Only lead, list and campaing are available). Would it support new objects in future? If so when can we expect it to see a version with full/most of the funtionaly supported in SOAP API?

Problem with SOAP API is, it is extremely slow. Especially with LeadRecords

Eventually will REST offer all the featurs available with SOAP or will SOAP continue to offer somthing unique?
Reason is we want to finalize the API that we are going to use. We do not want to end up with dupliacate effort later.

Both will continue to be supported. We are continuing to build out new features for the REST API. As you mentioned, the advantage of REST API over SOAP API is better performance.
