Sending a sample email with a token for first name

I'm sending myself sample emails with a token for first name and my record in our lead database includes my first name, but the token isn't populating in the sample email. How do we test that tokens are working in samples? We don't have a CRM, in case that matters.

Thanks,

David

Re: Sending a sample email with a token for first name

Are you in the database and are you using that email address (that is in the database) as the sample person that you are choosing?  If you are not, it will not show up.  What I would do is click send sample, then put in the email address of someone who is in the database that has a first name.  Then in the send to, put in your email address. the lead will not get the email, but you will see what they would see if you had sent that message to them.  Does that make sense?

Are you sending the sample by choosing the lead email address in the Lead: field? You need to choose the lead and then choose where to send it to.

That's odd. When I click to send sample, the box only shows two things: a Choose Previous Address dropdown and a Send to box. There is no place to select a lead.

Hi David, if you choose to send a sample email from the previewer, it doesn't give you the lead option. All other methods should provide you with the lead field. (Not sure why the previewer is different, but something that I've noticed.)

Hi Dory,

I actually don't see the Select a lead option when I click on Email Actions-Send Sample from the main email view itself.

I've sent a note to Support. I'm not sure what's going on.

I use SPARQ, in case that matters.

A work around to it not appearing, would be to create a batch Smart Campaign that sends the email to only your record.

Hi David,
See if you can send test from within the email edit screen. We're on Spark, and that's the only place I can select a specific lead for test emails.

Thanks Calene. This worked for me.

Awesome, thank you Calene! I was having the same problem but your comment saved the day.

I should think Marketo should make sure every opportunity to test an email has the full lead selection option!
