Multiple lead submissions from same user

I have been trying to find this as it doesn't make sense that it was not addressed, but I could be wrong.

When a person submits new data through a form, it appends the old data and updates it to the new values, and of course this can be synced with SFDC.

What about when a user submits multiple enquiries about various products? at the moment Marketo updates the data to new values, but for example, we have real estate products, and a user could enquire today and submit interest in various projects that we manage, such as an appartment, and tomorrow submit interest in a couple of villas of a newly launched project, and then the day after in office space.

How can we capture these in a way to be able to separate the data that this person was interested in multiple products and not just one?

I could be wrong and this is all taken care of, but if so please let me know how to do so.

Thanks 😉

Re: Multiple lead submissions from same user

If you have a single field where you record their product interest, then it will be overwritten and you will lose the previous value.

You can concatenate new values onto the existing values in the field (text area) using tokens as described by Adam Waterson in the Deciding Program Attribution Percentages discussion item.

Another option would be to add the lead to separate programs for each property in which they express interest.  This could work if you have dozens, not hundreds of properties and it would provide better analysis options.

Re: Multiple lead submissions from same user

Thanks Elliott. this seems a little more complex than I'd thought.

I would imagine this being a built-in automatic feature for users to resubmit interest in various products, as most companies have more than one product, and most customers are interested in more than one product as well. And I was surprised to see that leads were overwriting themselves when we have a new product launch, and a lead's previous interest has been changed to the new one.

Currently the only way to see them is the activity log, but we're gonna have to figure out a solution.

I'll check it out and see, but let me know if you have any further suggestions 🙂

Re: Multiple lead submissions from same user

Tarik, as a start-up, we have only one product, so this hasn't been a problem we've had to address yet.  My suggestions are possible alternatives, but you might want to resubmit your discussion item in the specific context of how other Marketo users with multiple products handle tracking interest in multiple (and in your case constantly changing) products to get a broader consensus of your options.
