My team and I are working with a third-party to help us integrate our Magento data into Marketo. We have been working with this company for over a year now and they have yet to deliver a working solution/API that does not break. A long story short: We are very unhappy with the expertise and level of customer service that we have been provided and our production and tracking has been severely impaired.
Has anyone out there worked with a third-party to integrate Magento and Marketo data? Do you have suggestions on vendors? How long did it take you to get to a working solution (we've been working with this company for over a year, and have just been quoted an additional 8-10 week timeframe to get to a live implementation). The company we've been working with was found via Launchpoint, and I don't see many other options for Magento+Marketo. Even a Google search does not return many results, so I wanted to reach out to the community for help!
Thank you in advance!
What type of data are you looking to integrate between the two systems? Without context, it's tough to say that the third party is falling short or your business requirements are complicated
Hi Jason! Thanks for the reply, and good point.
So a little more background on my question: I'm new to the team and have inherited a Marketo instance. The person before me had been working with the third party company on the integration for over a year. I am not sure how consistently the integration was working when the former person was here, but recently we have been informed by the third party that the integration has not been working consistently since August. So...we have a ton of missing data and activity on our customers/ potential customers in Marketo since the sync is "inconsistent" from Magento to Marketo.
The requirements for this sync were matching fields in Magento to fields in Marketo to sync them. Fields such as: Opportunity, Opportunity Name, Subscribed, Opportunity Description, Amount, Expected Revenue, Closed/Won, Stage (placed order, in cart, etc.), Last activity date, etc.
Hope that helps give a clearer picture of what we want to accomplish!
Thanks for the info...off the top of my head, this sounds like a fairly in-depth integration. A custom integration requires tons of upfront business process work (schemas, sync intervals, data formats, system of record for each field/table, etc.), so if these things were not defined well at the beginning, it can make a project draw out. Even the best laid plans can get messed up by personnel departures, feature changes, etc.
If you feel things are out of control with the agency, I would have a sit down with the project manager to fully outline what needs to be done, who should be responsible for each, potential risks to the timeline, etc. The length of time the project has taken isn't the issue here; it's your uneasiness about what's getting done and when. Work to resolve that first.
Thanks, Jason! I totally understand, and having worked on other custom integrations in the past for different projects I am well aware of how complex a custom integration can be and the implications when the requirements/expectations are not set in the beginning.
That said, I am still tasked at researching alternate companies (at least for comparison's sake) so if you have any suggestions or experience with specific companies, feel free to pass along.
We have not done Magento and Marketo specifically, but have done integrations with other eCommerce systems and marketing automation such as uberCart and Eloqua.
Typically with a system that has orders, we would integrate that to a custom object that has a many to one relationship with the contact record (lead in Marketo's case). If the data needs to get to Salesforce eventually and you want to leverage the Marketo native integration you can pass it along to a task in Salesforce and use that in Salesforce to create the appropriate records. We have done this for a number of use cases in the past.
Does anyone have recommendations for requirements planning for the Magento + Marketo integration? I tried to hunt down documentation from the initial calls and plans that were had when the previous person was here, but alas I could find nothing (and no one else could dig anything up either).
Maybe just suggestions of things to think about, what to plan for, examples of a timeline/deliverables, etc.?
