HTML Source tab not available in landing page editor

I am trying to create a new landing page template with a custom design. The "HTML Source" tab usually at the upper left hand corner of the page, is not available. Am I not able to edit the html due to certain admin rights needed?

Re: HTML Source tab not available in landing page editor

Hi Shannon,
Do you mean email or landing pages? The functionality you mention is only available for email assets as far as I know.

Re: HTML Source tab not available in landing page editor

Hi Shannon,

With an email, you can "detach" it from its "email template" by editing the html. That is not possible with a typical Marketo LP. It actually has nothing to do with admin rights. In order to edit the source of a typical Marketo landing page, you have to edit the "landing page template" itself, which will affect all pages that use that template. The reason has to do with the way emails are made editable vs marketo landing page's use of absolute positioning.

There is a way to put all the HTML in the LP and then be able to edit it there, but that is not the default approach.

Hope that helps!

Oh I found it actually thanks! To be able to edit the entire html of a landing page I needed to create a new landing page template, rather than a new landing page. Thanks again...

Re: HTML Source tab not available in landing page editor

Hello,

I'm having sort of similar issue, in the sense that I want my LP template to also feature text boxes with Lorem Ipsum text that the marketing folks can quickly edits when they create their LP.

My issue is that after I create the template and create a new LP based on that template, none of my text is editable.... the div appears selected (green dotted line around the div) but the menu is blank and therefore I cannot edit the text, just the height, width etc...

Is this even possible to do this with the LP, just like with the email? I've been stuck for quite some time now and would really appreciate anyone's advice!

Re: HTML Source tab not available in landing page editor

Hi Rozenn,

You can't put your "lorem ipsum" text into the template. Your template has to be blank where your editable areas are. All editable sections have to be added to the landing page itself. You would drag over a rich text item from the right sidebar (you can also use custom html, but I wouldn't recommend without an experience html user).

My company has free marketo templates, including landing pages, with instructions on how to install them. The landing page instructions will make it pretty clear how it works.

If you do fill out the form, someone else will be contacting you about it. If you have any issues, just tell them you heard about it from Dan on the Marketo community.

Thanks!

Re: HTML Source tab not available in landing page editor

Dan,

Thanks a million! I had suspected this for some time now but couldn't believe there was not a way to create a template with editable sections... it defeats the purpose of a template for me but now at least I can finish this project! Do you know if this is possible to create responsive LP? that might be my next project then.

Again, I appreciate your proactivity and clear instructions !

Re: HTML Source tab not available in landing page editor

Hi Rozenn,

Yes, it is possible to create responsive LPs... we do them frequently. One caveat... the Marketo design editor is not setup to display them properly, or view the mobile format. The page will work, but editing and cloning are more cumbersome. They require an experienced html resource.
