How To Use Marketo Forms To Track Performance of Different Marketing Channels

I've created a Marketo form for ppl to download a whitepaper.  I would like to use this form for a Linkedin campaign as well as through an email blast to customers.  However, I'd like to distinguish how many ppl actually downloaded the whitepaper via linkedin vs. the email.

What is the best way to track the referral source? Would I need to create a different landing page for each? Thanks!

Hi Cindy, yup! You'll want to create a hidden field on your form that is populated with the URL parameter. As long as the link that people are using contains the URL parameter, it will be captured.

Example: www.xyz.com/campaign?source=linkedin and www.xyz.com/campaign?source=emailcampaign

Both of these would go to the same page, but the hidden form would be populated differently based on the source. One note here, if your field is "Source" and you use "source" in the URL, it won't capture. So capitalization matters here.

I'd strongly advise testing to ensure that you're getting the results that you're expecting, but in the long run this will help you to save time.

Hi Dory,

Thanks for your reply.  If I'm understanding this correctly, I could create a hidden form for URL parameter, and then Marketo would automatically capture for me if the person's coming from LinkedIn or an email campaign?  So this way, I wouldn't need to create a separate landing page for each of my channels?

Thanks!

Hi Cindy, you can also use a hidden field on the form, and then use URL parameters to capture this information within a person's record. This is our preferred method so that we can differentiate between different email campaigns, different campaigns from our sponsored content, etc. You can find some more information here.

Hi Dory,

Any chance you have the link for that article? The link in the post is no longer working.

Thanks!

@Leo_Salazar1 ,

Given this thread is from seven years ago, you might just want to ask a new question in the forums.

You can create a report to find out the referring URL (where person is coming to landing from, such as linkedin.com).
