How to reject SFDC contacts with no email address to flow into Marketo

Hi there,

One of the ways we want to start deploying is to request every new lead going into Marketo has email address to avoid dups. Since Marketo sucks everything SFDC creates, we have made email address a required field for lead record entry in SFDC as well. However, it's been difficult to request new contact record entry in SFDC to have email address, as sales ops thinks that it might pose some objection from sales reps when they need to log a contact prospect to their accounts that only has a phone number or mailing address.

How do other companies handle this? Is there a way for Marketo to reject SFDC contact records with no email address? If so, what other potential issues this may cause after rejecting it?

For those who were able to convince sales ops to require email address for all SFDC lead/contact entry, how did you get their buy-in?

Thanks so much,
Linlin

Hi Linlin,

Assuming that you have SFDC Enterprise Edition and that you currently use or are open to using a Private sharing Model in SFDC then one way to achieve this is via Sharing rules. You can hide all contact records from the SFDC sync user and then just grant it acces to contacts where the email address is NOT empty.

We created a video that walks through this process in SFDC and actually gives the exact example that you are looking for - only share contacts who have an email address.
