How to create an editable template

Our company is new to Marketo and I am trying to make a responsive template for a landing page and then hand that over to the Marketing team and they can create as many landing pages as needed.

I started with importing in the Yesler template that I have seen many people within the community talking about (http://yesler.com/blog/marketing-automation/4-reasons-to-use-responsive-marketo-landing-pages-and-how-to-create-them). When I import it in as a template and then create a landing page with the template nothing is editable. I was expecing to be able to select the elements and change them as needed when in the landing page edit section.

I then tried to take the code from a Marketo Template for responsive email. I copied the code to a template then made a landing page with the template and was able to edit the items. Yippee I found a solution. I then made a few changes so the template would match our website design and suddenly nothing was able to be edited with in the landing page edit page. I started totally over trying to copy the original code, but still can not edit anything on the landing page edit page. I can not even add an element using the insert tool on the right side of the edit page.

I am at a total lose right now as were to go. Any thought, ideas or tutorials would be awesome.

Re: How to create an editable template

Marketo's learning passport has a landing pages course next week that still has some availability. This is an interactive class, so if you don't get your question answered, perhaps it could be answered then. Here's the courses page: https://student.gototraining.com/6f598/catalog/1766512024711156480

Here is a tutorial on making emails editable, perhaps this could work for landing pages too? https://community.marketo.com/MarketoTutorial?id=kA250000000Kz3bCAC

Or perhaps you could achieve your goal with dynamic snippets? https://community.marketo.com/MarketoDeepDive?id=kA5500000008T2TCAU#powerful

Re: How to create an editable template

A few things Lynn,
  1. We are working hard to build better support for responsive pages. Please stay tuned for future improvements.
  2. There is a README supplied with the Yesler templates you downloaded. It has some important information about using their tokenized responsive landing page template. Either way, let me give you a brief overview of how you would go about this.
    • Import the tokenized responsive template into the Marketo Design Studio.
    • Edit the template and add all of your own custom logos, styling, etc. Any landing page content you want to be editable would be inserted via a token. Those are the things that look like {{my.Token1}}.
    • Save the template.
    • Next, create a new folder in Marketing Activities. Under this folder, create a new default program.
    • Once that default program is created, you will notice a tab on the program summary that says "My Tokens." This is where you would add tokens to replace those defined in the template you built. Go ahead and insert those tokens with temporary values or just come back and do it later.
    • Right-click on the program and create a new local asset, a new landing page. Choose that the landing page should be created from that template you created. Unselect "open in editor" because you don't need to edit anything...the tokens you entered in the previous step will be responsible for all content on the page.
    • Approve that landing page.
    • Now, make sure you've inserted the tokens under the parent program's "My Tokens" tab. Once that is complete, preview your landing page and you should see the page you've constructed.
Good luck!

Ah, looks like I need Tokens. Also will be getting into the Landing Page class. Thank you Michelle M and Justin C for the help.
