i want to build a nurturing campaign. currently we only have a single email, but plan to add more in near future. the welcome email should be sent right away aka once the user is added to the campaign; however, following emails should be sent on schedule e.g. one a week.
Can this be handled with a single engagement program and how or do we need an engagement program plus an email send program (for the welcome)?
Thanks ~
Hi David,
You would need to have one triggered email program that sends the welcome email so that it can be immediate and then have a campaign/flow step that adds them to the engagement program so they can receive the other emails on a weekly cadence. The issue with having the welcome email in the engagement program is that you have to set a specific date and time for the stream cast to run, it couldn't be immediate for the email send, so even if you add them to the engagement program immediately the send would be delayed.
Hope that helps!

email send programs expect to be sent on schedule. Which is the correct way to only send the email on trigger. Do we need the email send program, ,the email blast program or a regular default program?
Hi David,
You can use either Marketo's Email Program, or if you have a channel set up for "email" under the Default Program type, you can do that as well. We personally never use email programs and always use default programs. I would say that email programs are generally used on a one-off basis, but they have a nice dashboard built into the program. What you use also depends on you want to report on your program performance. Using default channels consistently for email allows you to customize your channels as need be. When you're setting up emails in your engagement program, you actually can't use the email program type either just as a note.
Hope that helps!
