Re: Email Link Performance Report + Smart List = Different Values?

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if you can help with this, as I have searched the community and couldn't find a solution to this, although there was post similar to this

(Email Link Performance figures vs. Smart List figures error) I'm seeing a discrepancy between my smart list and Email Link Performance Report. Here is what I have set up:

Smart List

  • Filter "Clicked Link in Email, Email is [EMAIL NAME]".
  • No constraints or anything else added to the filter.
  • 4 Leads

Email Link Performance Report

  • Filter "Clicked Link in Email, Email is [EMAIL NAME]".
  • No constraints or anything else added to the filter.
  • 6 Leads

None of the leads have been merged, and I also tried adding filters such as "Anonymous is False" and "Email Address is Not Empty." I used the same time frame and same email.  Any suggestions or is this a bug I should take up with support?

Thank you!

Julie

In setup there is a time variable, what is this set to?

HI Jamie,

Date of activity is set to "ALL TIME" right now, but I also don't have time constraints on my Smart List either, so I'm not sure why they would differ?

Thank you for your help!

That only makes sense if you have more than one link in your email and are looking at total leads. Do you?

Hi Justin,

We have 3 different links we want to view and yes, I am looking at total leads.

Thanks!

Yeah, so this makes sense. Here is a quick example for you.

-I send Email X containing 3 links to Lead A and Lead B.

-Lead A Clicks link #1 5 times and also clicks link #2 1 time. Link #3 is not clicked.

-Lead B Clicks link #1, #2, and #3 one time each.

I now go to Marketo and setup a Smart List with Filter "Clicked Link in Email -> Email is Email X"

I get 2 leads.

I now go to Marketo and navigate to Email Link Performance. I find Email X and view the results.

Link #1 shows: 6 Clicks, 66.6% Clicks, 2 Leads, 40% Leads

Link #2 shows: 2 Click, 22.2% Clicks, 2 Leads, 40% Leads

Link #3 shows: 1 Click, 11.1% Clicks, 1 Leads,  20% Leads

Total shows: 9 Clicks, 5 Leads

A bit confusing, but you can think of the total in the Email Link Performance report as Total # Clicks and Total # Unique Clicks. Because there is more than one link, if the same lead clicks several links that is more than one unique click.

Hey, Justin, I understand what you mean about click counts vs lead counts, but how do you account for the difference in Unsub counts?

I ran a group Email Performance Report on all Aug mails, to date, and got back one set of data. When I went into individual mail files and pulled an Email Link Performance Report just for that mail send, it showed more clicks, overall, and more of those clicks as unsubs, than the performance report had for that file.

It's time-consuming enough to put together the batch reports, but if you have to drill down on each mail send individually to get accurate info, we are hosed on being able to analyze our data in a timely manner.

Question - I have the same issue, only backward.

My smartlist of who clicked a link in the email shows 40 people who have clicked links.

The email link performance report shows:

  • only a fraction of the links in that email
  • that there were only 9 clicks

Huh?

Hi Ulyana Avetisov! Are yhou using the same date time frame for both the smart list and the email link performance. Or do you have additional criteria in your smart list that you added to email link performance report, which may be making it show less?

Hi Julie!

Yes, I was using the same dates for both.

Does the report show only links that were actually clicked rather than all the links? That may be why I see only some of the links.

If you want to setup 30 mins, I can prob explain what you are seeing. Feel free to ping me at jcooperman@marketo.com.

The Email Link Performance Report will not show every link in the email, it is showing you stats for each link that was clicked. There may be some mismatch in your smart list criteria.

Ok, that makes sense. And I think I had some mismatch in the setup tab bc the program with its reports folder was cloned from another.

Thanks for your help!

Got it - this makes sense! I knew I was missing something

Thank you for the clarification & help Justin Cooperman!
