Email domain not suppressed

We set up a smart campaign that had a filter in place in the Smart List to suppress a certain email domain. When the campain ran, however, an email was sent to at least two people with that email domain. Is there a reason why Marketo would send to some and not to others, even with a filter in place?

The filter was set up like this:
Email Domain not contains 'company.com'

We've had trouble with filtering this domain in the past as well. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Email domain not suppressed

Hi Nicole,

How is the information being written to the email domain field?  You may want to pull a leads report to see what information is being stored in the Email Domain field.

Also, you could use email address instead of email domain as your filter in order to prevent certain email domains from receiving your email (ex: Email Address not contains @company.com).

You can look at those leads to try and see, but in general, I agree with Val. Her approach is more robust.

Re: Email domain not suppressed

Thanks for both replies.
You were correct; some information was lacking in the email domain field for certain leads. We'll be using email address as a filter moving forward.
