Hi Everyone,
Hopefully this is an easy question... say someone has multiple lead records pointing to the same address. Would Marketo send an email to that address for every record, or is it smart enough to just send one?
Also if I were to unsubscribe an account that points to that email address, would it also unsubscribe the other lead records pointing to that email address?
Thanks!
Cheyne

Hi Cheyne,
In answer to your questions:
1. Marketo has a built-in safeguard such that if duplicate leads qualify for the same campaign/program, it will only send to one of them.
2. There is a built in feature called "durable unsubscribe" that references a master email address table on the Marketo back-end. If one lead unsubscribes, then all of the leads with the same email address are automatically unsubscribed. If a lead resubscribes, then all of those leads are automatically resubscribed. Marketo hangs on to this unsubscribed status even for deleted leads too: if you delete a lead that is unsubscribed and then create a new record with the same email address, it is automatically unsubscribed upon creation. This helps customers stay in compliance with anti-spam laws even though leads have been deleted.

Grant
