We want to have a wait step in place to trigger an automated renewal email to be sent to our customers based around a future close date field we have created in Salesforce. Essentially, the wait step would wait until 60 days before the date in that field to send them a renewal email. We would be able to do this on a broad monthly basis by setting the wait step to wait 10 months after the activity occurs, but the issue is that the date will change depending the length of the contract our customers negotiate.

If the field in SFDC is a lead, contact or account field, this is quite easy. In the wait flow step, click the small gear icon. you will open the Advanced wait properties dialog:
In Type, select Date token,
In end on, first select the field, then complete the setup and save
ATTENTION: this will work only for trigger campaigns, not for batch ones. (For a mysterious reason, Marketo has only enabled this feature for triggered ones).
