Adding a TextArea field to our Marketo form and linking it to SalesForce

I have created a Marketo contact form which I have linked to SalesForce and it works well. However, I wasn't able to add a TextArea field to the form because it wasn't listed as an available field in the Form Design screen. Even the SF Description field doesn't show up. We need a field like this so people can state their requests or message to us when they fill out the form and then have that field information map to a field in SalesForce.

I then added a custom WebFormMessage field (TextArea) to SF and was hoping that it would then be available in Marketo to use that field in my form. But it doesn't show up. Any suggestions as to how to add a textarea field in Marketo for this purpose? Thanks

I partially solved this but I am not sure how. Basically, I checked again in the Form Designer about a half hour later and the new SF field that I added there showed up. I guess it did not sync immediately. However, now when I fill out the new textarea field, it does not show up in the Lead information screen. The other fields all show up, just not this one.

Did you look in the SFDC Custom fields tab?

In the Form Designer page, I don't have a SFDC custom fields tab. Not sure why. That said, my custom SF field did show up in the Template Form Fields section.

Ideally, I would like my Web Form TextArea field to map to a Notes field attached to a SF lead. Such that multiple notes could be generated for that lead from the form. Right now, I have a single custom field for my SF leads and if the customer fills out the same form later and types in a different message in the TextArea box, it overwrites the previous value in the field instead of adding a new note or appending to it.

Rick, in your previous post you said "when I fill out the new textarea field, it does not show up in the Lead information screen" and I thought you were saying that you weren't able to find the field in the lead record's Lead Info tab.  Custom SFDC fields like your WebFormMessage field will be appear in the SFDC Custom Fields tab in the Marketo lead record.

In regards to losing the last note if a new one is added, you can create another text area field and create a smart campaign that will append all new messages after each other in this field. The technique for doing this is described by Adam Waterson towards the end of the rather lengthy Deciding Program Attribution Percentages discussion.
