Account Field Not Trickling Down to Contacts

Hello!  We have a field on our accounts called "Incumbent" that lets us filter by what software a company is currently using.  This field is not always trickling down to its associated contacts, so when I try to filter our lists, there's no way to suppress people who are using a particular type of software.  Has anyone had any experience with this?

We're using SFDC and recently migrated over from SalesLogix.  When we did that, we imported all the SalesLogix information as Contacts, on which we don't want/didn't place the Incumbent field.  We're thinking this may be the problem - people who had been in the system or had lead records seem like they're fine, while the Contacts are missing the information.  It would make sense, but just in case, I've contacted Support to see if they can help with the field mapping.
