Missed Adobe Summit 2025? No worries! In our recent hands-on lab, marketers explored the new email designer in Adobe Marketo Engage, powered by AI and the Content Accelerator. This tutorial will guide you through the same steps to create modern, personalized emails quickly, perfect for engaging B2B audiences. We’ll take on the role of email marketers at Bodea Inc. Let’s get started with this quick, step-by-step guide!
What You’ll Need
- Access to Adobe Marketo Engage (log in via your Adobe Experience Cloud account).
- A goal: We’ll create a promotional email and a thank-you email for Bodea Inc.’s event platform.
Step 1: Create an Email Template
Let’s create a new email template using the new email designer.
- Navigate to Email Templates [New]: In Marketo Engage, go to Design Studio > Email Templates [New] and click "Create New" button.
- Select an OOTB Template: After you give it a name “Bodea-Email-Template”, add a description like “Bodea Inc email template” and click “Create”. Then you will be navigated to select any Out-of-the-box template or create from scratch. Choose one of the OOTB templates
- Open in New Designer: In the designer, select any sections like “Header” and on the right panel, change the “Background” color to blue or click on any button and tweak the “Button Border Color” to red for a fresh look.
- Save and Close: Your changes are not auto-saved, so ensure you click the "Save" or "Save and Close" button

Step 2: Lock Template Sections for Consistency
Keep your template consistent by locking sections that shouldn’t change.
- Start with Your Template: Use the template from Step 1, or duplicate a pre-built one in Design Studio > Email Templates (New). Name it “Bodea-Email-Template-New.”
- Enable Locking: Open the template, click outside the preview area, and go to “Settings” on the right. Turn on the “Governance” toggle.
- Lock a Section: In “Settings,” select “Content Locking (select areas that are locked).” Choose “Allow structure & content addition,” then click a section (e.g., header image) in the preview. Set “Lock Type” to “Locked” to make it uneditable. For an image within the section, turn on “Use Specific Locking” and set it to “Editable Content Only.”
- Save and Publish: Click “Save and Close,” then publish the template.
Why It Matters: Locking ensures brand consistency across campaigns, especially for B2B audiences who value professionalism.
Step 3: Create a Reusable Email Fragment
Fragments are reusable email parts that save time. Let’s create one for Bodea Inc.’s event description.
- Create a Fragment: In Design Studio > Fragments (New), click “Create Fragment.” Name it “Bodea-Event-Body” with a description like “Bodea Inc event description.”
- Build It:
- Drag a “1:2 container” (two columns) into the canvas.
- In the first column, add an “Image” component. Search for any image in Marketo Engage Design Studio images, select it, and set the Alt text to “Event Image.”
- In the second column, add a “Text” component with: “Enter the description related to the main features of the event.” Set margins to 10 on all sides.
- Add a button below the text. Set the label to “Learn More,” button color to Hex #9EACC2, font color to Hex #FFFFFF, button border color to Hex #CCC2C2, and border radius to 0.
- Set Editability: For the text and button, turn on “Enable Edition” and keep them editable. For the button, allow editing for “Label” but keep “URL” uneditable.
- Save and Publish: Click “Save,” then publish the fragment.
Why It Matters: Fragments streamline email creation, ensuring consistency across multiple campaigns.

Step 4: Build a Promotional Email for Bodea Inc.
Let’s create a personalized email to promote Bodea Inc.’s platform using your template and fragment.
- Start a New Email: In Emails > Emails (New), click “Create Email.” Name it “Bodea-Welcome-Email” and set the subject as “Discover the Future of Tech at Bodea Inc!”
- Set From Name: In the right pane, set “From name” to “Bodea Inc.”
- Add Your Template: Click “Edit Email content,” select “Saved templates,” and choose “Bodea-Email-Template” (or “Bodea-Email-Template-New”).

- Add Your Fragment: Drag a “1:1 container” into the canvas, then drag “Bodea-Event-Body” from the “Fragments” section into the container.

- Customize Fragment:
- Update the text to: “Join us at Bodea Inc. to streamline your event management!”
- Change the button label to “Explore Now.”
- Customize Image:
- Select the image, click the image icon, and choose a new image from “Marketo Engage Assets”.
- Edit the image in Adobe Express: Click “Edit in Adobe Express,” apply a “Tint” effect, save as a Transparent PNG named “Bodea-Webinar-Person1-Copy,” and insert it back.

- Personalize It:
- Add a new “1:1 container” above the fragment and drag in a “Text” component.
- Click the personalization icon, select “Lead” attributes, and add “First Name” as “Dear {{lead.First Name}}.” Bold the text and increase the font to 22.
- Preview to see the personalization (e.g., “Dear Sarah”).

Why It Matters: Personalization drives engagement, a key factor in B2B marketing success
Step 5: Test and Send Your Email
Ensure your email works perfectly before sending it to Bodea Inc.’s audience.
- Simulate It: Click “Simulate Content” in the top pane. Search for a test person (e.g., sarah.james@example.com) or use a test email from your Marketo instance. Add the person and preview to see personalized tokens (e.g., “Dear Sarah”).
- Send a Proof (Optional): Enter your email under “SEND TO,” select the test person in “SIMULATE AS,” and click “Send Proof” to test delivery.
- Save and Publish: Click “Close” to exit simulation, then “Save and Close.” Publish the email.
Why It Matters: Testing ensures your email delivers as expected, building trust with your audience.

Let’s use AI to quickly build a “thank you” email for Bodea Inc. event attendees.
- Start a New Email: In Emails > Emails (New), click “Create Email.” Name it “Bodea-ThankYou-Email” and set the subject as “Thank you for your attendance at Bodea Event!”
