Segmentation by Account Owner

I need to segment my database by the Account Owner field. This is how we sort out which prospects belong to which sales reps, which accounts belong to which account managers, etc.

This same idea was raised back in 2012 and there aren't any recent updates. Surely I'm not the only one who could use this?

I'll add that I did come up with a workaround, as follows. Maybe this will be helpful to someone else in this situation:

1 - Created a Marketo text string field called "MKTO Account Owner"
2 - Created a campaign to "change data value" to populate this field with conditional steps along the lines of "If Account Owner equals Tom Smith, change data value in MKTO Account Owner to Tom Smith" for each of my Account Owners
3 - Ran campaign and set it up to run every week to catch any updates in Salesforce
4 - Based my database segmentation on the MKTO Account Owner field

You can do this using segmentations; are you not synced to a CRM?

Yes, we are synced to Salesforce and Marketo support confirmed that it is not currently possible to segment by the Account Owner field. I can use it as a filter for anything else in Marketo, but not for a segmentation.

Can't you create a segmentation that says "If account owner is _____" add them here? I've also done it with their SFDC ID as well as email address for the owner. I swear I've done this using segmentations before... Is that field simply not visible to Marketo?

That field is simply not available as a filter for segmentations. It is absolutely boggling to me.

That is a screenshot from one of my segmentations; maybe submit a support ticket and see why your segmentations can't see those fields?

Kristen, the response from Support is that the Account Manager field you are showing must be a custom field, as Marketo fields for Account Owner are limited to "Account Owner First Name," Account Owner Last Name," and "Account Owner Email Address." I'm digging into whether or not I can use these fields for my segmentation, although they don't come up in my filter either so I'm guessing that's a no.

Are you able to confirm if your Account Owner field is a custom field?
