Notification for Sync Failures

Notification for Sync Failures

There really should be a way to notify someone if a record sync failed, especially considering Marketo gives up after the first try.

An example of where this is extremely prevalent is for SFDC integration customers who have validation rules setup. Validation rules related to Leads/Contacts are fairly common is SFDC, but they are often setup over time by an admin as they are needed, especially when new custom fields are created. A by-product of this process is that existing database records that were in SFDC don't have values in the required fields, so from the moment a validation rule is setup and going forward, when the record is being edited by a user it won't save unless that required field has a value. Since Marketo needs a SF user login, it is subject to these validation rules.

The example above may want to be documented in the SFDC installation/integration guides as well, since validation rules are not necessarily part of permissions and can apply to an admin user. We had no way of knowing, and luckily we caught this before we launched our first nurture campaign... otherwise thousands of records wouldn't have synced anything. *gulp*

I should add that a sync failed notification would be useful in more cases than the specific example above... API limits for example. I'm sure there are other examples that cause a sync failure.

I think what most of us are asking for is a systematic way to know when an individual record fails to update in SFDC.

It looks like this release covers campaign failures, but it does not cover record update failures:  https://community.marketo.com/MarketoArticle?id=kA050000000L7yA&mkt_tok=3RkMMJWWfF9wsRolvKXMde%2FhmjTEU5z16u4pXaCyhYkz2EFye%2BLIHETpodcMT8BhNrHYEhcSI4JkxgVAR%2B2UbotF7vpfWQ%3D%3D

Campaign failure and groups of failed issues would be so helpful in forcing our salesforce admin to help us out...

Is this on the road map any time soon?

The ability to know whether a lead was successfully synced to SFDC is crucial to reporting how many leads are qualified. The point of all the lead lifecycle management program is to automate the MQL development. These MQLs meet the scoring threshold automatically, then are pushed to SFDC for BDRs to follow up.

The problem is, I have to dig up leads that meet all of our MQL requirements but failed to sync over to SFDC. This is very time-sensitive since the more top-of-mind we are on a lead the better for follow-up!

Please add this feature soon. Thank you!

This would be a great feature to have.  There have been many times that myself and other colleagues have been editing/deleting leads and we wait for the queue to process and then see the check mark that the action was a success.  Since you have to manually refresh Marketo to actually see the edit/delete you often assume it has been done.  Often times, the synch failed and the edit/delete was not made and never completed.  It has been a bit frustrating and caused double work but now that we know to keep an eye on this, we check every 10 or so leads to make sure that it is still synching.

When I first loaded this page the "We like it" sounded like something might be coming, however I see that the date of the first suggestion is two years old and we are no closer to getting this resolved. This is vital information to ensure that the hardwork done in marketing is not lost because sales never knew we had leads for them.
Either the notification centre should show the errors, or a smart list can highlight the users with problems.

I just wanted to provide an update that work has been and is being done on this.

A notification has been added that will fire when leads fail to be added to an SFDC campaign when a Marketo program is in sync with an SFDC camapign.

There is a bigger project in the works and personally I'm looking forward for the day when you can easily identify leads that failed to sync.

I have just come across this issue.  This is a hugely important feature to bring in.

As of the January release a new notification has been added for leads/contact that fail to sync via the background sync.

The notificaiton gives a list of sample leads that you can click on and that will bring you to the Lead record in Marketo.
This error can occur for leads or contacts that fail via the background sync with the the error message that Marketo received from SFDC : 'INSUFFICIENT_ACCESS_OR_READONLY: insufficient access rights on object id’.

The best method to troubleshoot this is have the SFDC admin log in as the Marketo sync user and see if they can access the record, if they can access the record see if they can update the record. It’s most likely that a change to a sharing rule/ record access permission will be required on the SFDC side in order to resolve the issue.
