Notification for Sync Failures

Notification for Sync Failures

There really should be a way to notify someone if a record sync failed, especially considering Marketo gives up after the first try.

An example of where this is extremely prevalent is for SFDC integration customers who have validation rules setup. Validation rules related to Leads/Contacts are fairly common is SFDC, but they are often setup over time by an admin as they are needed, especially when new custom fields are created. A by-product of this process is that existing database records that were in SFDC don't have values in the required fields, so from the moment a validation rule is setup and going forward, when the record is being edited by a user it won't save unless that required field has a value. Since Marketo needs a SF user login, it is subject to these validation rules.

The example above may want to be documented in the SFDC installation/integration guides as well, since validation rules are not necessarily part of permissions and can apply to an admin user. We had no way of knowing, and luckily we caught this before we launched our first nurture campaign... otherwise thousands of records wouldn't have synced anything. *gulp*

I should add that a sync failed notification would be useful in more cases than the specific example above... API limits for example. I'm sure there are other examples that cause a sync failure.

FYI - I just merged a bunch of ideas together on this subject.  We are now up to 69 votes 🙂

This thread concerns me greatly (especially as old as it is) because:

(a) this is why we left Genius long ago
(b) this was a huge selling point to us
(c) after the frustration of initial setup with our SF org, and being sent several bad URLs for configuration and installation purposes, plus the ongoing issue of our Marketo logins all showing up as "sandbox" logins in the Support system (and the bad URL found there as well that simply redirects to itself)

..I'm hopeful that this is NOT going to be a recurrence of our experience with Genius.   We are pretty pleased with ActOn (www.Acton.com) right now, and are (attempting to) evaluate Marketo, and first-day impressions are... there are a LOT of concerns here.  Data sync does NOT need to be added to my list, because I will immediately go back to the boss and say "ActOn it is".  ðŸ˜ž

Subscribing to this thread, but also wanted to add that one idea merged with this one has a different point.

Looks like "Notifications" in October release will include sync failures!

"Notifications – get notified of Smart Campaigns errors and Salesforce.com sync errors in the new Inbox"

Justin is absolutely right, specifically we notify of campaigns that failed (Like the Sync to SFDC Flow Step) and we've also added some notifications about missing fields. We'll be putting a few more items in once the Dec 7th release hits, and continue to make it more clear what the system is doing with the new Notifications system.

There should be a sync log file which shows all of the failures with a sync. There is no way to know if a record failed sync without someone noticing that something doesn't match between SFDC and Marketo. When  you have hundreds of thousands of records, it is not possible to catch the failures.

Now that we have the notification center, is this issue resolved? So far, I have only seen campaign failures in there and not sync failures.

I have not seen sync failures when the record is rejected by SFDC, like for a validation rule problem.

I see this thread has not been updated for a while, does this mean it was resolved? I am looking for a SFDC sync failure report and I don't see it anywhere. Has this been solved and I just don't know it? This is a critical issue for us. We had many 'Request a Quote' submissions fail to sync over for one reason or another. This is money left on the table because our sales team can't track it in SFDC. We send an alert when the form is filled but the sales team needs to be able to see this in SFDC.

Also, there may be sync failures that don't otherwise trigger an alert and those I would never find.

What's the status?
