Move the primary navigation options directly to the navigation menu

Love the new interface, however the decision to bury your primary navigation underneath the logo is a true head-scratcher from a usability standpoint. The primary functions now take 2 clicks to get to when they should be exposed always, being that they are quite literally the primary navigation options of the platform.

Please move these primary navigation options directly onto the top menu bar ASAP. Burying them is an unnecessary inconvenience to every single user.

Thanks for your feedback.  Check out the shortcuts that should make your experience much better!

Thanks. The shortcuts are good to know, although the primary challenge is opening these areas in multiple tabs. Shortcuts do not help with that. I realize there was probably a lot of debate and consideration around the "Super Ball" menu, but I'd bet that you're going to end up moving the primary nav to the top level where it belongs. Call it an inevitability of web app design 😉

Hi Tom,

I'll take a closer look at this with our design team.

Thanks,

The SuperBall has many reasons behind it.
  1. We wanted to reclaim the vertical (valuable) space used by the nav.
  2. We needed to give access to MORE things, like SEO, Calendar, etc and there was no room in the nav
  3. Over time, we are blowing up the design studio, lead database, and analytics and making it more granular like just showing templates or just showing forms.  The nav was not the right UI for this kind of model.  This will be accompanyed by a new tree navigation. (2015 if all goes to plan)
  4. We have new properties showing up like RTP, SEO and others.  We wanted a way to make navigation consistent, even if the codebase was different.
The keyboard shortcuts should be used for speed, if you need.  However, your point about multiple tabs raises a question.  If you have multiple tabs open, why are you using the SuperBall at all?  Aren't you just switching between browser tabs?

With that said, Im sorry Tom, but the top nav is gone.  We brought it to live on a farm where it will be happy and have lots of room to run.  It has a better life now. 🙂

I know it's not the answer you wanted.  Sorry about that.  I'm working on improvements to the tree that will make you happy. (I hope)

Just to express a different point of view, I'm pretty happy with trade off of the slightly bigger screen vs the nav menu.

I already had so many "tabs" in the old interface:
  1. File menu at the top of my screen
  2. Browser tabs
  3. Marketo purple setup menu (Setup, Logout, etc)
  4. Marketo "Main Nav" (Marketing Activities, Analytics, etc)
  5. Functional Tabs within each main area (New, Program Actions, etc)
That's pretty crazy - 5 levels deep - I don't think they went that deep even in the movie "Inception"!

So we went from 5 levels to 4, by moving the main nav to the ball - that's a step in the right direction. Otherwise, you'd end up here:

I actually like having the menus tucked out of the way. In general when working a person doesn't spend a ton of time flipping from one section to another and I absolutely LOVE having the extra work space. I hated how little space I had to work in in the old UI.
