Mapping Marketo Emails into Activities as a Custom Type

We have custom type "Email" but Marketo appears to drop in as the default type "Call". I am relatively new to Marketo and am struggling to remedy this. I don't see anywhere to adjust the activity type and choose a custom option?

Unfortunately, this is not available at this time, but there is a workaround discussed here.
