    SFDC Field Sync vs. Marketo custom Field map with SFDC field

      Hi all,

       

      As I know, we can create a Marketo Custom field, then create the same field in SFDC --> Map this field on SFDC.

      There is also a way that create a new field in SFDC, then it will be added to Marketo based on the doc: SFDC Sync: Field Sync - Marketo Docs - Product Documentation

       

      I am curious if there is difference between these 2 different approaches? If so, what's the differences would be?

          If you create the field in Marketo first, and then create it in SFDC, the SFDC sync will create a duplicate field that will not be mapped to the Marketo field.  You will then have to file a Support Ticket and have a field merge or field remap done before the Marketo created field will be mapped to SFDC, which can take a couple days to complete (or longer for multiple fields).

           

          If you create the field in SFDC first, the sync will automatically create the field in Marketo already mapped without any engagement with Support.

            Hi Steven,

             

            Happy Friday! Thank you so much for sharing the information with me. It makes sense.

             

            I have another question regarding this post. There are cases that a field both exist in Marketo and SFDC, but there is no values in the "CRM Field Map" area.

             

            However, some fields, there is value in the "CRM Field Map" area.

            Do you know why? In which case, "CRM Field Map" won't / or will show value? For the 1st screen shot, does that means both fields are not mapped? Because of what I found out, it led me wrote this post.

              It's likely that "# of Brands" isn't mapped to SFDC right now.....I bet the Marketo Sync User in Salesforce lost Read permissions to the field in Salesforce.  That's usually the reason why the mapping will disappear on a field that used to have it.
