    Internal Email Communications

    Amanda Zoeller

      Good afternoon,

Currently we run a "happy work anniversary" campaign in our Marketo instance to internal employees. Our parent company uses Exact Target right now and wanted to start using Email (O)pen because they specialize in internal communications. I wanted to see if Marketo could support what they're looking to accomplish so they wouldn't have to work with yet another email company. They have an internal HR server that Email (o)pen communicated to every 24 hours so it can dynamically update new or old employees. Does anyone have experience running internal campaigns and how do you handle the need to update employees daily without manually having to import or remove records? (We are a finance company with tight rules so we need to update employees daily).

The way to update Marketo people based on an external service (such as your internal HR directory, which I assume is Active Directory or comparable LDAP server) is to have an integration piece that reads from your LDAP and then writes results into Marketo via the Marketo API.

It's not exactly difficult, but it's not built-in. Presumably if Email (O)pen is communicating with your internal HR server, then your IT already trusts the inbound connection to the LDAP (it's probably locked down by source IP and is read-only).  You have to extend the same permissions to a Marketo layer.
