Can anyone recommend a tool to test and preview email formatting for the major email service platforms on desktop, tablet, and mobile.
Marketo offers an Email Delivery Power Pack that does a great job for email previewing/rendering as well as inbox placement. You can test your email across many ESPs and devices. This also will give you recommendations to optimize the email and populates the updated HTML for you to drop into your email.
The best value for your money is Email-on-Acid: https://www.emailonacid.com/email-testing
Litmus is the leader in this space, but more expensive than EoA: Litmus: Email Marketing, Email Design & Email Testing Tools
Hi Dan, the Marketo Email Deliverability PowerPack is around the range of $3800/year and I see that Email on Acid (Basic Package) is only $49/mth, so less than $600/year... that is a big difference in price from the Marketo Email Deliverability PowerPack. Have you used both and do you have a preference over one?
Hi Leanne - we never used Marketo's solution, so it would be difficult for me to provide a comparison. I suspect that they offer a bit more on the deliverability side. If it's email preview (and some testing) that you're really focused on, you can beat EoA.
+1 for Litmus! Love it.
Chris Saporito - isn't the Marketo Email Delivery Power Pack powered by Litmus? I think I remember hearing that. Either way, I'll provide another recommendation for the Marketo tool.
Marketo uses a white-label version of 250ok (and I believe 250ok uses Litmus): 250ok | Email Analytics & Deliverability
Essentially, there are two native providers of inbox preview: Litmus and EmailOnAcid
Thanks for the info Dan!
Hi, Dan. Actually, 250ok supports out of the box integrations with Litmus and Email on Acid.

What do you mean "Marketo uses a white-label version of 250ok (and I believe 250ok uses Litmus)"? What is white-label?
"White-label" is a term used to indicate a third-party solution/service being used and branded by another company, making it look like their own. Revenue Cycle Explorer (RCE) is another example. The underlying platform is owned/supported by a third-party. Marketo brands it as a feature that's part of the overall platform (as an add-on). Which is one of the downsides - in that Marketo has to rely on the third-party to continuously enhance/evolve the product. And in the case of RCE, it's been pretty much stagnant.
Also note that, with Marketo's Email Delivery Power Pack there is a limit to how many emails you can run through it every month. I think the cost goes up with additional emails, so you may want to ask your account manager for that break down and make sure it meets your needs. But we used it at a previous company and liked it. It was fairly easy to use once you have it all set up (set up was easy too!).
Hi Stephanie Berry,
We generally follow Litmus as a preferred tool for email testing.
