Synching Marketo with a Custom Object in Salesforce

    Lauren Nickels-Guinn

We sell finance software and often have hundreds if not thousands of business user contacts per Account. We want to be able to email these people as business users, but do not want to add them as contacts on the Account, cluttering the view for the sales team. We're thinking about creating a custom object in Salesforce to house these people (name, email, role), but are not sure if we can then identify these folks in Marketo from the custom object and email them. Has anyone done anything like this?

          Hi Lauren,

So, I've been thinking about some different ways to handle this--and if the issue is the Sales view, is there a way to consistently sort who sales should have as a "key contact"? It may be easier to link the user contacts to the account and give Sales their own view that shows them exactly what they need--no more, no less.

You can go the custom object route, but you're likely going to have some major issues in terms of account-based marketing and reporting and I wouldn't want you to have to jump through all those hoops to fix it.
