Hm, suddenly the contact appeared in the Marketo program as member and I have no idea what I did...
it takes time for the sfdc to sync this sort of thing. Best to push the lead from Marketo to the program, not rely on marketo to pick it up the other direction.
Thanks, Josh, for this hint. The longer I work with Marketo in connection to Salesforce, the more I recognize that it's nearly always the best way to start in Marketo and push to Salesforce and not the other way round.
