Good question--I wasn't aware that impacted deliverability, but I'm definitely interested to see if anyone else has experienced this issue. It's a fairly common practice for us to repeat a URL in an email--typically around our logo and in the footer.
What is the spam tester saying as a possible error?
Usually I repeat the same URL 2-3 times in a webinar email or most CTAs...which has never been an issue. It may have something to do with the Image URL, tokens, and the surrounding html. Spam filters will see certain kinds of code as problematic.
I too use the same link on the body of the email and the same link on an image. But what used to happen is that when I add the link to the image, and hit the save or submit button, my link would disappear, so I end up hard coding it. But I send test broadcasts to my team and it doesn't end up in their junk mail.
I'm one of Marketo's antispam experts. This isn't a behavior I'm familiar with causing problems, but the antispam world changes on a pretty frequent basis. I'd like to hear more about the specifics of your tests and bad results - does it look like this is specific to a particular ISP or antispam vendor? What specific testing system are you using?
Whenever you have a few, I'd love to hear more. If you'd rather not share here in public, please send email to my team's alias, email@example.com.
