We use the Outlook plug-in through sales insights. Whenever one of our sales people sends an email to a lead through Outlook, it gets tagged as a "Sales Email." I assume it's the same if a salesperson also sends to a lead through Salesforce.
Whenever we send a blast or nurturing email from Marketo, it is tagged as just "email."
