Just add them to the "Marketing Suspended" list with a trigger campaign when they close an opportunity, and you should be good to go.
I use a Segmentation to differentiate propsects from current customers. Identifying your customers, including won opportunities should be simple:
- Account Type Equals Customer
- Not added to opportunity where Stage is Won.
You can then include this filter in your email smart lists:
Account Type Segment not equal to Customer.
