This is usually something you'd build using a content management system, like Wordpress, Drupal, etc, and then you could use Marketo forms and the Munchkin javascript code to track users and collect leads on your microsite. Content management systems are generally a lot more flexible and designed to build web pages and microsites. Marketo was designed to build standalone landing pages to support specific marketing campaigns as opposed to multi-page web experiences. What's the purpose of the microsite, lead generation?

Hi Elizabeth, It's definitely not designed to develop a microsite, but that doesn't mean it's not possible. For example, you could build a landing page template with the header/footer you want to be common across the 'microsite,' as well as the navigation that would have a link to each of the individual pages on the microsite. Then you'd build the individual pages, and update those links in the placeholder nav to point to each of those landing pages. Basically, you're just making a network of landing pages that interlink to one another. Is there something prohibiting you from using a proper CMS rollout? I feel like anything more than just a few pages would be a nightmare to maintain if you built it using Marketo. Thanks! Good luck!

From my experience, as far as Marketo is concerned once you send an email test, that "Email Subject Line Test" version is the new name of the asset itself, so what you're finding is likely correct. Is that email asset the only one in the program? If so, you could use email "starts with" instead of "is" and capture any email assets within the program to cover your bases as well. Additionally, to test this out, you could great a new Smart List, add the rules that you mentioned above "Not Opened Email > Starts With > Program.Asset.Name," and see if the number matches the unopened number from your email performance report.

Ahhh yea this makes sense. Agreed on the previous visitors issue. Conditional choice logic would be amazing, the trouble I face is I really want to use the "Clicked Link" trigger, but want to wait for a period of time after that activity and wait for the 2nd or 3rd layer activity like you're describing here (page view, page click, form fill, etc.). I can watch page activity and use querystring filters to identify users who visit pages via email clicks, but that activity isn't associated with the email program and the trigger is now the "Visited Webpage," which doesn't help our sales team understand what content or marketing campaign is driving engagement.

It's really interesting you're seeing bots trigger page views, I really haven't seen that correlation in our data yet. We operate in a pretty specific B2B sector, so I actually think it more likely has to do with the most commonly used technology in our sector. Barracuda seems to be our biggest problem, and from my research and own testing, it does not appear that Barracuda specifically downloads any javascript when it gets to the landing page, as I'm not seeing broad bot-click activity in Marketo, GA, or other web analytics tools, but I AM seeing the corresponding click activity in Marketo. The honeypot idea someone posted below seems like a decent way to avoid that, but only if you're batch reporting OR mass-suppressing known bot-click addresses. Dan -- When you track that additional activity on the landing page, is that trigger based? Do you have a way you associate that activity with the program which the user originally clicked? That's my biggest gap that I'm trying to solve for at this point.

This is also a great method, but can you elaborate on specifically how your reporting is suppressing the link? We have a lot of ongoing pushes to our CRM when activities take place, how are you able to filter out only the bot clicks? Or, are you simply filtering any clicks from that email address if you see the honeypot interaction? Our goal is to suppress the bot click, but still try to capture any human engagement even if a bot had initially reviewed/clicked the email.

Would you be able to actually provide a link to the landing page? I'm thinking that maybe the CSS media query rules for when to start displaying the mobile version are incorrect?

We've definitely seen the same issue. It's fairly isolated in our industry and we see bot-clicks in a pretty specific region, but our numbers are even farther off than the 72% you're seeing. We're talking 93-96% inaccurate. We've since started utilizing the page view as the trigger for those groups as well which has helped, but the biggest issue for me is associating those clicks (web views) back to the program level in an automated way. Since the clicked link in email activity has a program ID associated, but the web page visit activity log will not. It's a serious issue that Marketo itself needs to bake into the platform. We've been trying to get cleaner data with our own workarounds, but it really only works in a program-to-program basis and haven't been able to come up with an instance wide solution that we could set up to have running all the time.

Hi Kelly, Before you can add a field to a form, you need to create the field inside your database so that when someone submits the information, there is a place to store the data on the persons' contact record. Navigate to Admin > Field Management, and click on "New Custom Field" towards the top of the screen. You will have to pick the field type which will determine what type of data can be stored in this field (numerical, string, boolean, etc.), and give the field a name. The system will automatically create an API name which I'd recommend just using what gets generated unless you have specific reasons not to. If you're not familiar with database field types and what to pick for that option, check out the documentation here to learn what each type means and what data can be stored within each type. Once your field is created, go back to your form and you will be able to pick the new field (note, this might take a minute or two to show up, so wait a few minutes if you don't immediately see it after creating the field). Hi Akash, If you want to roll up the results into a single report in Marketo, but have that report broken out by each time the email sends, yes, you will need 3 assets (at least as far as I know). As Sant Singh Rathaur mentioned, you can use the campaign email performance report to build a report for each send, but it sounds like you want everything rolled up. If it were me, it might consider creating a snippet of the email content itself and creating three email assets with the same snippet. That way, if you want to update the email as time goes on, you're not stuck updating 3 separate assets and instead can just maintain that single snippet. I'm not completely sure what the email message is, so that might not be a good option but just throwing it out there. Good luck!

Hi Akash, Sounds like you're looking for the Email Performance report. If you right click on your program, you can Add New Local Asset, and select report. In that list, select "Email Performance." Once there, go to the setup tab, and double click on "Selected Emails" in the filters section. That will give you a popup where you can check the box next to the programs where the three email assets you're sending reside. Make sure you adjust the timeframe of the report (also in the setup tab) to be for the time period you're looking for. Once you do those things, go to the Report tab and you should get send, deliver, click, unsubscribe, etc., data for each individual email, as well as rolled up in aggregate. I might be misunderstanding though, do you only have 1 single email asset? If that's the case, this will not solve your problem. You'd have to create unique email assets to have a single report that shows all three sends comparatively. Hope that helps!

It's unfortunate because the output of your date format has to fit within the velocity rules, so you can't just modify it to add the "th" yourself. You'd have to split it to first return the month, then return the day. Then basically do: #if $dayOfMonth = 1 1st #elseif $dayOfMonth = 2 2nd #elseif $dayOfMonth = 3 3rd etc... Not real fun, but that should (might?) work!

Reading the documentation that Sanford Whiteman linked, I'm not sure if there's a simple way. All I can think would be to first calculate what the month would be as 1 value, calculate what the date would be as a second value, then essentially map the values to their "th, nd, st" counterparts with an if statement based on the returned 'date' numeric value, then combine the two in your final Not super easy, but that looks to me like the only way to do it...

To navigate to where you can add/change program statuses, go to: Admin > Tags > Click the "+" next to the Channel > Double click on the channel you want to update. Once you open up the channel, it will list out your current program status rules and you can add, change, reorder, etc., to those rules. Once saved, you will be able to use your new program status in your smart campaigns and flow steps!

Hi Everyone, Working through creating snippets for most of our nurture campaign content so that our team can update content in one place and have it cascade out to any nurture campaign using a specific asset, but a lot of our emails utilize Velocity Script Tokens ( globally used {{my.tokens}} ) to show specific contact info based on their lead status. My testing seems to indicate that the tokens render properly (the snippet content is static, not dynamic), but can anyone confirm this is the case? I could split out any of the token pieces of the emails into separate editable sections of the email asset, but that would be a lot more work to maintain. If the tokens will work inside the snippets I'm good to go. Thanks!

Can you provide some more context to the purpose of the campaign? Based on your description, it sounds to me like you're using filters in your campaign logic and no triggers. In your smart list, you can add triggers (orange), or filters (green). Triggers are watching for an activity to happen, and then the flow step of your smart campaign will dictate what do when it happens. You can also apply filters to your trigger campaign so that not every single person that fills out the form will go through your flow step, but only those that meet your specific criteria in your filters. The full Marketo documentation can be found here. If you switch up your filters to be the trigger version instead of the filter version, add the flow step of "Send Email" and select your email asset, then in the Schedule tab simply activate the campaign. At that point, it's watching for the trigger action, and then responding with the process built in the flow step.

When using the recipient time zone sending, will dashboard reports opens/clicks in the "Hours since sent" be calculated using a relative time from when that user received the email (i.e. the person clicked within 2 hours of delivery), or will be be an absolute time (i.e. the person clicked 4 hours after the program began to deliver)?

In my Marketo instance, I have multiple subscription programs I am in the midst of setting up. I created a template program, and cloned it multiple times and updated the individual assets to match that specific subscription. However, when I look at the assets tab when I'm I have any of the individual programs selected, the set success smart campaign shows the original from the template listed, NOT the specific version I updated within that particular program. I checked the Set Success smart campaign within the child folders of the program, and the details of the smart list and flow are accurate. Does anyone have any idea why when the program rolls up to the asset view that either 1) the wrong asset is showing, or 2) the name is not updating?

I encountered an issue with a token I was modifying and wasn't sure if anyone else has encountered this problem. I was editing some logic within an email signature token we created. After I updated the logic, I was having issues with some of the data points referenced within the token rendering correctly within our emails. When I looked back at the token, one of the data points used within the token had been 'unchecked' from the right side integration settings, but I had not touched or modified those when making my updates to the logic. I'm not sure if it's just user error on my part, or if there was a keystroke or shortcut that would trigger those data points to change, but wanted to see if anyone has any experience with something like this happening.

I'm trying to determine what fields are available to collect using the LinkedIn Lead Gen Forms update with the Spring release. The documentation from Marketo is here: Set Up LinkedIn Lead Gen Forms - Marketo Docs - Product Docs Looking at the preview, I see that by default it collects: City Company Name Company Size Country Email First Name Additionally, there is a statement that says, "To accept default LinkedIn to Marketo field mappings, simply click Create," which tells me there are non-default fields. I don't have access to our Marketing LinkedIn account, but wanted to know if anyone knows what fields are available to collect using the tool. I also did a little digging on the Linkedin Autofill, as I was thinking that perhaps the Marketo tool was leveraging that to pass data into Marketo, but the fields listed do not align with the fields listed as default with the Marketo Lead Gen Forms tool. Does anyone have any additional info?

It was a short test as it was a semi-timely email, but the duration was set correctly. Test was sent at 10AM (40% audience split), and winner was scheduled to deploy to the remaining 60% at 2PM, but that email never deployed. I have a question, if another use setup the A/B test and accidentally set up the program to manually declare the winner, do you know if I would be able to see that when I log in using a different user account? I have admin rights.

Hi Everyone, Relatively new to Marketo and someone on my team encountered a strange issue. We set up an email to deploy with a subject line test, defined the test audience, criteria, and timing of the test. The test emails deployed no problem, but the remainder of the list who were supposed to receive the winner never got an email deployed to them. My thought is that perhaps the settings in the campaign did not have it setup to automatically declare the winner and deploy, but I can't seem to find where that is located. Would I be able to see that if I was not the one who setup the campaign? Assistance is very much appreciated! ---- EDIT: Thanks for all of the responses!
