Hi Lori, Emily is correct. You can build demographic scoring into your model which should assist with adding scores for the entries you specified above in addition to your behavioral scoring.

Hi Adriana, You could add a program channel step that changes their status when they click on the link in the email, then have a smartlist or list populated with those that have clicked on the link; that might be the best way to make this activity measurable but scalable.

I think you could make a 'scoring' field and have it add up the number of registrants in your registration trigger. Then, when the field reaches "x" number, you could have the alert be triggered to send. The only limitation I could think for this would be that you'd have to reset it per event and/or only be able to use it for one event at a time. I also know there's testing for Smart List subscriptions occurring; you could ask to be part of that and simply subscribe to smart lists.

I'd just try to iron out different groups that you email consistently; a lot of them will depend on your modeler. Some that we use are company size, customer vs. net-new lead vs. trial. From a high level breakdown: -Segmentations assist with filtering out behavior or demographics within your database -The modeler dictates the buying stage The combination of the two of them is what makes Marketo/you successful.

I recommend ironing out your segmentations for larger database sizes. The most helpful one is "valid email addresses" which will always give you the number of people included vs. blocked. Also it will make your lists run a lot quicker. Do you use segmentations?

I think the easiest way is to set up your modeler, then when they reach a certain stage (IE Opp opened stage), you marketing suspend them. If you have this happen automatically in the background of your system, it ensures everyone is having the same experience. I don't recommend having reps do this manually through campaigns in MSI. Also to clarify-- a blacklist is people that are competitors etc. who should not be receiving content. Two things should be going on with this: 1) a smart campaign should be set up that's 'listening' for typical blacklist people coming in that's automatically blacklisting them and 2) there should be a way for reps to manage 'bad data'. I've normally had this as part of the lead status field, but you COULD have it as a campaign within MSI, it just depends on how your team uses Salesforce. Marketing suspend is when you remove people from mailings because they've entered a certain buying stage (or other behavior).

Otherwise, I always just think more forward-thinking. Making it easy for people to subscribe to your content on the website might be the easiest way to 'acquire' people who may have otherwise moved on.

I think you can do this, but you're going to have use streams (and possibly a lot of them) with transition rules for each around probably clicked link. This feels a lot like one of those logic puzzles where you should write out all possible logical outcomes (streams) and then create their transition rules. I think this is possible (provided you can wrap your brain around this) but I think an easier work around might be to create a segmentation around what part of your funnel they're in (or use the modeler). Then serve up the content based around what part of the funnel and/or tailor the message. Although it seems like you want to base most of this off of what content they've digested, so that might not work exactly. (But hypothetically you might be able to create segmentations around what content has been digested, and at the very least, number of pieces digested). I am not sure how scalable this is just because it seems time consuming to think of all potential outcomes. But good luck!

Definitely not a dumb question! This is something that always hurts my brain a little bit. First things first: I'd use programs instead of the same email over and over if you're using in different programs. This impacts your reporting on that email in (esp in RCE). So, do that. Second: If you're using the same email and they're moving from program to program, I'd differentiate by streams. IE-- If was member of this engagement program, then add to this stream vs. if not member then this stream. To answer your question in short: I don't believe Marketo can differentiate because they're not in the same engagement program. If you want to hedge this, I'd recommend streams within one program, or my suggestion above.

I would marketing suspend your leads prior to using marketo sales insights since opt-out and marketing suspended are both honored (according to my understanding). However, if you have additional 'suppressions' I don't believe they will be honored since those aren't 'seen' by the app. To clarify: this is for the SFDC plugin portion. For the gmail/outlook plugin, I don't believe either of those are honored since that's not sending from the marketo 'domain' and is sending from your company's domain. Does that make sense?

I feel like you could solve this by adding yourself to the lists that are included in your email sends. Perhaps you can create a segmentation around 'valid', 'invalid' and 'internal' email addresses. Then, with each send, you could select 'valid' and 'internal' in order to be included on the right sends. Although you'll have to audit this smart list, it would accomplish the general 'cc' of what you're looking for. Another (more manual, but effective) way to track this would be to create a google form where all emails to be sent are requested. If you include copy and fill in the results (IE # delivered, # opened, etc.) afterward the send you'll end up with a very thorough snap shot of what's going on email-wise.

Can you just delay until Tuesday? If it's a business related email, I personally think that it's inconsiderate/not a good example of sending emails. If your database is segmented by country, I'd send to your US segment on Tuesday with perhaps a note to the holiday of the day before in the subject line.

I agree with Josh that perhaps your scoring is a bit high; if you're basing your scoring for MQL at 100 points, 34 points per program MIGHT be too much but it really depends on your buying cycle. If 3-4 program interactions qualifies them behaviorally, then this might be just enough. If not, then it's too much. It also depends on how you're using/applying demographic vs. behavioral lead scoring to push/qualify as MQL. Things to keep in mind: 1) Scoring is something you should revisit quarterly (once it's worked out) but more frequently if its newer. 2) Scoring can be done at the program level or at the system level. If your instance is newer/smaller, it might make sense to score within programs. This would allow you to run program performance reports, see the scores of the individuals within them and then decide how you might want to set up the scoring for your entire system 3) There's no 'right' or 'wrong'! Just test and adjust.

Overall: Step 1--decide what your different streams will be--buying stage, behavior, etc.; tailor your content around this Step 2--decide what action is adding them to the nurture program itself; create a smart campaign either inside or outside of the program to add them to the engagement program Step 3--determine the rules for moving in between streams; set those up in the program Step 4--turn it on and see what happens! Step 5--make more nurtures! (based on 'listening' behavior and get out of the batch and blast )

Are transition rules for moving between streams? Or moving from one email to the next within the same stream? I click on edit transition rules but nothing happens. --Transition rules are for moving in between streams; people will automatically flow from one email to the next within the stream depending on the cadence you set. If I want my leads to get email #2 three days after email #1, is that set in the flow of the smart campaign? I have my cadence set for every day, reoccurring weekly, because new leads will be constantly flowing into my nurture program (as a new lead comes in, they are sent a welcome email. Based on that send, they would be flowed into the nurture campaign 3 days later). Am I on the right track? --The recurrence is set by the cadence. I'd recommend sending the welcome email outside of the nurture, then adding them to the nurture program, where the date of their next email will be determined by the cadence that you've set. You can add a wait step if you're having it send every day and don't want them to receive the next email the following day. Hope that helps!

I'm assuming that you have your system set up to automatically sync to SFDC campaigns and don't push manually? IE you push campaigns at the program level You COULD push smart campaigns within each program to the respective SFDC campaigns; they won't add duplicates. However if you've synced at the campaign level, you may have to unsync in order to do this. I'd check with support and see if you have to unsync, then resync.

I believe 'abort' would be applicable for anyone who actually has the ability to execute a campaign. If you haven't edited your 'marketing user' profile, this should include those people. Having used the abort button before, it doesn't work as quickly as you'd like on smaller campaigns. But essentially, to answer your question, you need to check your profile settings!

I build out segmentations and send to the segmentation as well. If you build out the field for this, the segmentation is easy to implement. If not, it requires a bit more tinkering within your instance. This will also help you in the chance that you want to send emails from the SDR or implement signatures using dynamic content.

I use a segmentation for 'valid emails', which basically removes marketing suspended, unsubscribe, blacklist, and email invalid. In this segmentation, I also have created an 'internal' list for when we want to send to people internally but don't want that number included in our final count. The best part about creating this segmentation is for each send that you do, you'll see the 'exact' number instead of having to do the math between the two. Just a thought!

Also keep in mind that you also submit tickets to assign out your Marketo sandbox, so it's a good idea of think of a number of people that you'd want to have access instead of having just once.

Hi Erica, The number is proportionally based on the number of leads in the database. I compare them against each other to see when it makes sense to delete (ideally before you go over your lead number).

Pros-- you get more space in your database! Cons-- you lose history (but if it's invalid, then you're losing nothing). However you do lose account information. I generally delete once we hit a certain amount of invalid leads and I pull a number of smart lists to see how they were created (IE lead source, are they associated with an account in Salesforce, etc). I think you should take a look at how many, how often, and where they're coming from because often this can open the door for additional data cleansing measures.
