Passing utm's via Google auto-tagging to Marketo hidden fields

Hi folks,

I've seen some variations of this question asked but could not explicitly find an exact answer:

We previously set utms manually on all urls driving to our Marketo landing pages. Our forms (we are using Forms 2.0) captured those utm parameters from the query string in hidden fields and passed the values to the appropriate Marketo fields.

We are now moving to Google Adwords autotagging for our campaigns. As the url string now only contains ?gclid=xxxxxx, can we still extract the utms that Google has encrypted in the query string? Does Marketo have the ability to pull those utms somehow and still populated our hidden fields?

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks,

Mark

Can you move the question to Products and I'll answer it there? Thanks. (Move link is on the right.)

Thanks for moving. Unfortunately, there isn't a happy answer for you. The gclid is purposely opaque on the client side: you can't pull the underlying search information from it (and there's a lot more than search terms involved).  Instead, use ValueTrack params to forward more runtime information to your LP, and of course manual UTM tagging is still useful.
