Can you add comments within a filter in a Smart List?

To add comments, -- is what I use in Oracle and ; is what I use in Unica.

Does Marketo have the option to add a comment within the filters? For example, if I select the Email Address filter within the Smart List of a campaign, I want to add a comment to explain a section.

--people who signed up for class 1

aaa@test.com

bbb@test.com

--people who signed up for class 2

ccc@test.com

ddd@test.com

--provided by phone

eee@test.com

Is that doable? Looking for something similar to Unica where we can comment within the filter.

Re: Can you add comments within a filter in a Smart List?

Technically, no.

But in the specific case of an email address, you can use the comment-like prefix (hash plus space) because those characters could never start a valid email address. (Per RFC 5321 an email address with a space must start with a quotation mark.)

Of course this won’t work with an [is not] filter, only an [is].

Anyway, there’s no official inline comment feature.

Just to throw an idea out there: If you don't use "Email Address Is" but "Member of List" or "Member of Smart List", you could add your records to lists and name these lists accordingly. Something like this:
