We’re excited to share with you that Marketo and Google Cloud announced today a multi-year alliance to transform engagement solutions for the enterprise. Marketo and Google have worked together for some time, but today marks a step forward in our collaboration to unite MarTech and AdTech to simplify the technology landscape for the marketer and enable them to more effectively listen, learn, and engage with buyers across all digital channels.

Through this alliance, Marketo and Google Cloud will jointly invest in co-innovation, including expansion of Marketo’s integrations with Google’s advertising products, Google Analytics, and G suite applications, as well as new innovations in areas such as Artificial Intelligence. Google will also expand its usage of Marketo’s Engagement Platform across its businesses.

Finally, beginning in 2018, Marketo will run its marketing automation products and datacenters entirely on Google’s Cloud Platform. We’ve been planning a move to a public cloud infrastructure for some time as we believe it’s necessary to deliver the scale, reliability, and security that our customers and partners will demand in the future. The transition from Marketo’s datacenters to the Google Cloud Platform will take place over the next year. Our joint goal is to create a seamless transition with absolutely no impact to your operations. For additional details, please see the press release and FAQ.

We are incredibly excited about this collaboration and expect to begin rolling out joint solutions in 2018.

Hi Janet,

Question on this transition. If Marketo will be running all of its marketing automation products and datacenters entirely on Google's Cloud Platform, how will this impact Marketo's availability in China? Access to most if not all of Google's products are blocked in China and this is a major market for us and our marketing efforts.

Thanks
Jason

This sounds positive. Currently our instance is in Marketo's data centre located in the UK will it continue to be located in the UK when it is moved to Google Cloud Platform? - I believe they do have servers located in the UK.

Thanks

Hi Jason!

Once on Google Cloud Platform, Marketo will be consuming Google’s infrastructure services; these are independent of Google’s consumer services. You will continue to be able to deliver content to contacts in China. There’s no change in moving from our co-location data centers to Google Cloud Platform.

It is, Giles and we’re very excited! Google Cloud Platform has a data centre in London for UK customers. According to the Google Cloud Platform Location page, Google has 11 regions, 33 zones, over 100 points of presence and a well provisioned global network with 100,000 miles of fiber optic cable. This global infrastructure will help Marketo create efficiencies and scale.

By chance, will this have any impact in ensuring Marketo's customers are compliant with regards to recent/upcoming data privacy/security regulations like the EU GDPR (especially with Marketo being the "data processor" or out data)?  So far, Marketo has been completely silent on how its platform will aid in GDPR compliance. I'd also be interested in what increased security this environment will offer.

Hi Dan,

As with other data protection laws, GDPR compliance requires commitment from both Marketo and our customers.so there are two questions / points here:

  1. Marketo's own compliance: We will soon publish a formal update on this but it is our plan to be in compliance with the GDPR by May 25th, 2018, that planning is well underway and the Google partnership has been planned for as part of that.
  2. Our Customers compliance: Marketo’s services already include the functionality necessary for our customers to comply with the GDPR’s consent requirement. As per my blog post Consent is a key area for consideration in your own planning.

We're also looking to publish additional content resources specific to Marketo to help you implement your GDPR plan. Look out for that in due course.

Peter
