Issue When you add variables to your email template assets, the value assigned to that variable is not showing in the text-only version of the email even though it shows in the HTML version. Solution Email 2.0 variables do not pass the defined values for variables through to the text-only email. Since Marketo token values are passed through to the text-only email, customers may expect variable values to also be passed through to text-only emails. However, this is not currently the case.

Issue None of your tokens are rendering inside of your .ics Calendar File token and instead are showing as the {{lead._____}} form.     Solution This is caused when a single token has an undefined value, such as a 'My Token' which doesn't exist in your Program. Send yourself a version of the Calendar file and look for a blank space where a token should be- This will be the token causing the others to not work. Make sure to define a value for this token and then your Calendar File will render without issue.

Issue Clicking on a link in a Marketo e-mail that re-directs to a non-Marketo webpage destination does not open the page.     Solution Complete the troubleshooting step below. If they do not resolve the issue, include the results in a Marketo Support Ticket. Check the CNAME is correctly setup for the email tracking link  Check that the Default Branding Name matches the CNAME in Step 1 (check for typos).  If you are unsure you can visit CNAME lookup on mxtoolbox and enter the default branding name to check. Under the Domain field enter your default branding name. Do you have SSL for tracking links enabled? If Yes, tracking links in emails should start with HTTPS:// If No, tracking links in emails should start with HTTP://   If you do not have SSL enabled, but when you click the link it resolves to HTTPS://,try a different network and see if it still occurs. Your network may be configured to automatically use HTTPS automatically even if the link is specified as HTTP. (Check with your network admin)   If you are re-directed to the non-Marketo landing page but the page does not load: Check with the website admin if there are any redirect rules setup on the website. Try cutting out parts of the additional URL Parameter to see if that fixes the issue to identify which part of the URL parameter is causing it. Sometimes lead tokens or the mkt_tok may affect a redirect rule, since mkt_tok generates random characters and sometimes the token contains percentage '%' characters. It very common for websites to interpret a % followed by a character as an encoding. Seen in this website here   If you are unable to resolve the issue in the steps above, provide the test results and information in a Marketo Support Case.

Issue When you click on ‘Forward to Friend’ link on an email template, it redirects you to the below 404 error page.   This is a article attached image     Solution The ‘Forward to Friend’ link will work only in a sent email and not on an email template. To test this functionality, you need to create an email using the template which contains "Forward to Friend’ link and then send the email to your test lead using a run action.  It will not work properly with a send sample. Open the email and click on the "Forward to Friend" link. Once clicked the email will open on a webpage and then the below "Forward to Friend" box will be visible.   This is a article attached image   To know more about "Forward to Friend", refer the below document.   http://docs.marketo.com/display/public/DOCS/%27Forward+to+a+Friend+Link%27+in+Emails

Issue You are utilizing Forms on Marketo Landing Pages, and want to run reporting on these forms.     Solution Currently Marketo has reporting for Email assets and Landing Pages. We do not have the ability to report on Forms specifically. One option would be to use Web Page reporting  -  this reported information would be limited to Marketo Pages with numbers of records who filled out the form, listed under "conversions." You could then create a Smart List to identify leads who have filled out these forms.

Issue You have a Marketo form embedded on a non-Marketo page.  When you open developer tools in your browser you see: "Error loading form: Object error: true errorCode: 400 message: "Subscriber <Your Munchkin ID> is not valid" "   Solution The form embed code you are using is looking for your instance in the wrong place. Check the URL when you first log in to Marketo, make sure the sub domain in that URL matches what is in your embed code. For example: If you see https://app-sjst.marketo.com/ then make sure you have that same "app-sjst" in your embed code. Please note: This may vary between your sandbox and production instances.

Issue You may notice this permission error "You do not have sufficient privileges to perform this action" when previewing an email even though the user role has permission to access the emails. Solution This can happen when the user role didn't have any access to the lead database as shown in the picture. This is a article attached image The user role needs the top-level access to the Lead Database(1 of 15). This is because the email previewer allows one to view the asset as if you were a specific lead, but if you can't see the leads, then the error will trigger. To fix this issue, you would need to provide the user role with top-level access to the lead database.

Issue A landing page is taking a significant time to load. Solution The load time of a landing page is generally due to resources that have a large file size or due to third-party scripts. This can be identified by using tools like https://tools.pingdom.com/ that breaks down the loading time of individual resources and scripts within a landing page. Another way to inspect the loading time of resources and scripts within a landing page is using the network feature of the developer tools in Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari or any other web browser: https://developers.google.com/web/tools/chrome-devtools/network-performance/reference https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Tools/Network_Monitor https://developer.apple.com/safari/tools/

Issue You click on a link in a sample email to test form pre-fill, but when you do, the form is not pre-filled. Solution When sending sample emails, the send sample feature does not generate links which are captured by the web browser, so the form pre-fill information is not passed. The test needs to be performed by sending an email using one the features below:   Single Flow Action "Send Email" in a Smart List A Smart Campaign An Email Program Once a live email has been sent and not a sample email, the tracked link which contains the mkt_tok passes the lead info and the form will now pre-fill with that lead's information until the cookies are cleared, a new browser is used or an incognito browser is used.

Issue Are Marketo forms responsive? Will they auto adjust their layout to the size of the screen depending on if they are mobile or desktop? Solution The form layout can work responsively on mobile and desktop depending on how you have it setup. If your form in whole is never wider than your intended screen size (like a mobile at 480pixels), then the form will not differ on mobile devices from its desktop view. If your form is too wide, you can alter the layout using custom CSS on the form code to make the form fit within the mobile browser screen size bounds. How to edit CSS of a Form is covered here: https://docs.marketo.com/display/public/DOCS/Edit+the+CSS+of+a+Form+Theme

Issue Email asset does not show which template it was built on and shows the word "none" instead of the name of the template that was used to create that asset. Solution Any edit directly to the HTML code of an email will break the connection between the email and the template. Changes made to the template will no longer flow down to the email. After making those change you will see a template name of None instead of the name of a template. When editing the HTML in the email, you will see this warning message: This is a article attached image

Issue You are unable to archive or delete an asset in Marketo. When you try to do so, you get an error: "The following assets are in use or used by other assets."     Solution To archive or delete the asset, you will need to determine where it is being used. Click the Used By tab for the asset you are trying to delete and see what other assets reference it in some way. For instance, aSmart Campaign may be using it in the Smart List or the Flow Steps, or a report might have it in the Smart List. Once you find where your asset is being used, you can go and remove references to it from the other assets. This should allow you to delete or archive it.

Issue After moving an asset to a new folder, you are unable to see the asset in the tree, or see duplicates of the asset in both the new and old location. Occasionally, this may occur even when you have not recently moved the asset. Solution Sometimes when an asset is moved from one folder to another, it may not display correctly in the navigation tree.  This is generally due to a caching issue.  Try refreshing the browser or logging out of your Marketo instance, then logging back in.  If this does not clear the issue, contact Marketo support to have us clear the tree cache for your instance.

Issue When forwarding email that was received via Marketo to other people, the email does not render the same in the recipient's email client. Solution This can happen when forwarding emails, as the email rendering capabilities depend upon the email client that recipient uses. HTML and CSS can be interpreted differently by different email clients. As noted in the comment below Some clients' HTML parsers don't understand all types of markup, for example an HTML4-level client will not recognize HTML5 elements. Some HTML elements and CSS rules are deliberately ignored, even if the underlying parser and (in the case of webmail) browser supports them completely The HTML markup is can be changed, sometimes drastically, from the original markup before being displayed for security reasons   With that said, you can code against some of these anomalies by adding extra code in CSS to account for the differences. Marketo Support is not set up to assist with troubleshooting custom code as we are not web developers. We would suggest that you consult with an HTML/CSS designer to make these changes. To ensure that the existing email templates are coded to comply with different email clients, it is advisable to consult with a web developer/designer to review the code. Here is a guide that you may find helpful: https://www.campaignmonitor.com/css Furthermore, even if the clients are the same, the act of forwarding an email can itself change the HTML of the email.  However, Marketo does have a workaround for this. You would just need to put the ‘Forward to Friend' link directly into an email and when the person forwards the email using this link, there is a reduced possibility of the rendering issue occurring.  It also adds the forwarded email address to your Lead Database as an unsubscribed lead. The below article covers adding the ‘Forward to Friend’ link to your emails https://docs.marketo.com/display/DOCS/'Forward+to+a+Friend+Link'+in+Emails

Issue You want to lock specific parts of an email, such as the From or Reply-To, to prevent certain users from editing them. Solution Through roles and various permissions you can prevent editing of the email as a whole. You do not have the ability to allow only partial edit of an email header such as the From/To. The same applies to Sales Insight emails. Edit permissions are granted for the email as a whole Note: You can prevent people from editing pieces of an email by making those sections non-editable on the template level, but again, this would apply to all users.
