Giving the Option to Edit Text Versions Separately from HTML

It would be great to simplify the text-version editing process of email campaigns.

In virtually every email campaign I've created so far, I find the "Copy from HTML" feature for the text versions more cumbersome than a help.  Because the translation is so literal from HTML to text, I find myself having to manually edit the text version multiple times.  This is additionally frustrating when I have to make edits to the emails in Dreamweaver; if I replace the HTML entirely, all the work I did previously in the text version is lost.

The biggest issue is that there isn't one single box to house all the text version content.  Because I have to manually edit each bucket that has HTML content, it makes the text version process so much longer than it needs to be.  Every other email client/vendor I've ever used has a completely separate area to edit the text version.  You could always copy the HTML, and of course, it was never perfect, but nothing has ever been as clunky as this version.

I realize most people are on HTML and perhaps it doesn't really matter what the text version looks like, but we will always want to send one, and making the editing process easier would be a time-saver.

I'm not a fan of the arrows that move the text copy up and down, it's so cumbersome and the spacing often looks funny and takes me a while just to edit.  If there's just that one box that allows you to copy and paste text, it would be much easier.

Amen! I create my HTML emails in another editor, so every time I paste the HTML into Marketo, the text gets all messed up. Mostly adds a ton of space between each section due to the tables I'm using in the HTML version. It drives me crazy! It would be GREAT if the text version could stay the same even if I re-paste HTML code into the HTML email.

I agree, "Copy from HTML" should be a manual option only and not done automatically. It's frustrating to see a completed text version get completely overwritten because I changed one character in the HTML.

When using the "Copy from HTML" button, I wish links wouldn't automatically transfer over with "[[" and "<" characters before and after. I'm not sure if this is required for the hyperlinks to work but it definitely does not look very appealing.

[[]] is required for the links to be rewritten through the tracking server. Otherwise, they behave as if they had class="mktNoTrack". The [[]] are replaced and don't appear in the sent email.

<> is not required for tracking, but it helps set off the clickable links in an email so the plain-text mail parser can find them.
