When creating a template in Toutapp, we always recommend integrating dynamic fields, using the Tout Dynamic Fields button. This tool is used to auto-personalize your email and save you tons of time by pulling information from the Relationship page on toutapp.com. Here is a catalog of our most commonly used dynamic fields and what they pull into your email! Things to note: If a contact's information is entered incorrectly or is missing from the Relationships page, it will not pull over correctly into your template. The differences between {{company}} and {{company_friendly}} is that {{company_friendly}} will remove any formal title such as Inc., Llc., etc. from the name of your contact's company. When using {{company_friendly}} make sure you separate Inc. or Co. with a comma in the contact details. This is how ToutApp will know what to remove when pulling in the value. You can create your OWN custom dynamic field for anything you'd like to have automatically pulled into your emails. Check out how here.

We call these custom fields, and there are two ways to create them: NOTE: After you have created your custom field it can take around 30 minutes for the field to appear in the dynamic field dropdown in your template editor. (1) Saving custom fields for one or a few contacts: (a) Click the name of a contact in Relationships page (b) Then, choose the down button next to "Unsubscribe" and then hit "Edit" (c) Scroll down to the bottom of the edit page. You can then create a name and value for your field. (d) Hit Save (2) Saving custom fields for many contacts: (a) Create a CSV spreadsheet with your custom fields in their own column. (b) Follow the normal CSV upload process, stopping on our field mapping screen. (c) Instead of one of our preset fields, choose Add a new Custom Field from the dropdown. (d) Enter your desired field name and hit Ok (e) Finish uploading your CSV. Your contacts will come through with the added custom field. Now.... how to use your custom fields in a template: Once your custom fields have been stored using the above methods, you'll be able to reference them in your templates. (1)Create a template and click the Dynamic Fields button like you normally would. (2) Select "Custom Fields" from the dropdown that appears (3) You'll see your pre-stored custom fields and be able to select one to fill out in your template. Done!

The "first_name" and "company" field are the only fields in ToutApp that will look to both ToutApp and Salesforce. What does this mean? If a contact does not exist in ToutApp.com we will look at Salesforce to see if we can find a contact/lead record with a matching email address, then take the information listed in the Salesforce record to populate the field.

ToutApp will stop your emails from being sent out if we cannot populate all your dynamic fields in the email. However, there are a few exceptions to this rule. Some fields will send out blank or auto-populate a value if we can find one. Below we have listed these fields and how they will react if they cannot populate the field. {{first_name}} = BLANK {{last_name}} =BLANK {{title}} = BLANK {{company}} = "your company" {{friendly_company}} = "your company" NOTE: The {{first_name}} field will look to both ToutApp and Salesforce to attempt to pull information. All other fields in this list are only looking in ToutApp to populate the field.
