Anonymous Lead Upgrades – Analytics Reports

Summary

Since the “Is Anonymous” filter is being removed, Analytics reports won’t be able to add it into the smart list of the report. The “Is Anonymous” filter will be taken out of the available filters that can be chosen, but is not removed from any Smart Lists where it is currently in use. For more information about removing the filter, please visit the Customer Action documentation here.

Reporting on Anonymous Web Activity

Just because the “Is Anonymous” filter is being removed doesn’t mean you can’t get reports on anonymous web activity. The Web Page Activity Report and the Company Web Activity Report will continue to show anonymous web activity. To get anonymous activity to show in the report, follow these steps:

1. Navigate to the Setup tab and double click on the “Activity Source” setting.

2. In the dialog box, select which source you'd like to view. Your report will now show anonymous web activity!

Affected Reports

Not all Analytics reports allow smart lists, so not all Analytics reports will be affected by this upgrade. The reports below will be the ones affected and will have the "Is Anonymous" filter removed:

  • Web Page Activity
  • Company Web Activity
  • Email Performance
  • Lead Performance
  • Engagement Stream Performance
  • Email Link Performance
  • Lead By Revenue Stage
  • Leads By Status
  • Sales Insight Email Performance

I have Marketo Sales Insights installed in our SFDC instance. Will Marketo Sales Insight still contain and have a functioning "Anonymous Web Activity" tab after the "Is Anonymous" filter is removed?

Kevin Bickelmann,

Sales Insight won't be affected at all. The reporting there will still show the same data you get now.

Hi,

It was my understanding that anonymous visitors from ISPs only displayed visitors from AT&T, Verizon, Time Warner Cable, etc.  So if I am anonymous and my IP address refers back to my Bettercloud domain and not my ISP, I am not going to actually show up in these reports.

I am close to 100% positive that is how that filter has worked in the past, unless that is also being modified?

Attached some images to prove above point.  This is a web page report looking at anonymous activity.  I have it sorted by first visit.  Only thing I am changing here is whether or not ISPs are hidden or shown.

I'm not 100% sure on this detail off the top of my head. Let me check with Arjun Nair and get back to you. This discussion thread is pretty lengthy, so feel free to @-tag me later on to follow up if necessary.

Hi Mike,

Any word on this issue? It appears setting 'Anonymous Visitors from ISP's' to 'Shown' in Set Up will not show all anonymous traffic in the way that the 'Is Anonymous' filter has done historically when set to True. Is there a solution for this as of yet? We use the Web Page Activity report on a daily basis to track anonymous visitors to the site, so need a way to continue to report on this after the upcoming change.

Sean Murphy I've been talking with the Product Managers about this but don't have a conclusive answer yet. I'll definitely circle back and let you know once I have more details available.

The description in this article is not what has been rolled out with the Winter '16 release - at least for the Web Page Activity and the Company Web Activity. For those reports, a new filter has been introduced called "Activity Source". It appears that you can no longer have a single report with both Known and Anonymous Leads. You can select from one of "Known Leads", "Anonymous Visitors (including ISPs)", OR "Anonymous Visitors (not including ISPs)".  Which means no more reporting on both Known and Anonymous in one report.

This is a huge functionality loss for my team.

+1 - Not being able to roll out a single report to my sales team for both known and anonymous report is not a good thing especially since I just joined the company. Now sales has to open two reports instead of one to find the data they need, extra steps are always a no no for Sales. This automation right? Why we creating more work for ourselves. COME ON MARKETO!

Albert Li, I understand that these changes can be frustrating when they are first implemented. The Marketo platform is a constantly evolving product and our Product team is always interested in hearing from customers on how they can make it better. The Ideas portion here in the Community is where customers can make suggestions on what changes should be made. The idea has been posted to combine these into one report. I've already voted for this myself, but here's the link:

Sean Murphy Hello again! I just wanted to circle back and give you an update here. The UI was changed to make it so you have to select one Activity Source at a time when going through the Setup. This will differentiate the reports and resolve the issue. It was a last minute addition that our Product team put in to fix this issue, so the doc above has been updated to show the new version.
