updating a list

Hi,

I have a list with approximately 10,000 records. I exported this list and cleansed some of the data, i now want to import the data back in to the list and update the existing rows. Can this be achieved accurately without an email address field but with an ID field to uniquely represent each row when the update query occurs, or is the email address required to update each record successfully?

Thanks

Re: updating a list

I am pretty sure you would need the email address. I think that you can do this by SFDC ID though (if you use that as your CRM).

Re: updating a list

If you do not have email address due to updating it in many cases do you have SFDC ID? if you do you could upload the list to Salesforce and the updates would then come down to Marketo.

Re: updating a list

There is not a SFDC ID in the upload / update data - so the email address is required to act as some kind of primary key?

Re: updating a list

got it...now since the emails have been updated on some of the records this will create NEW recordsin Marketo not update the existing ones when you upload the list into Marketo. This is due to the fact that the primary key in Marketo is email address.

Re: updating a list

The problem with the email address as the primary key and not an actual unique ID is that an update to the email address results in a new record being created. With a dataset of thousands of records this can be very problematic!
