Why is my table font automatically changing to Times New Roman?

I've added a table to an email and the font (despite what the preview shows) keeps changing to Times. I have edited it many times and it keeps going back to that. I don't know HTML code so I can't go that route. I'm trying to use Verdana.

If you paste your code we can help. On another note, you owe it to yourself as a marketing automation pro to learn HTML. Visit CodeSchool or a site like that to get started.

W3 schools has great tutorials. I know it seems daunting but I'd teach myself the basics.

Then sometimes when I'm really thrown for a loop, it's just trial/error. I'd recommend testing on a live html editor, not in Marketo.

I need to lovingly disagree with you Kim. W3Schools is full of outdated and incorrect information. See http://www.w3fools.com/ for better alternatives. Kudos for growing your knowledge though 🙂

Thank you both for the post. We are actually just getting started with Marketo. At some point, I'd love to learn code and become certified in Marketo too!

Here's the code:

Aw, schucks Jason. I haven't been on there a while but "back in the day" I frequented W3. 🙂

Re: Why is my table font automatically changing to Times New Roman?

Hi Kate,
It looks like two things are happening in your code: first, the contents of your table cells aren't actually carrying through a "font-family" style setting; second, a Paragraph ("<p>") element and a Span ("<span>") element have different font-family styles declared. The end result is that your selection of Verdana for a font-family isn't rendering, and your table cells default to Times New Roman.

In order to format text the way you want, I would recommend enclosing the text inside a paragraph tag with all the styles set up the way you want them, like this:

<p style="font-family: Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height:1.4em; color: #888888;">
According to a recent white paper titled &ldquo;Streamlining Your Hospital Pharmacy Operations,&rdquo; the total missing or redispensed medication doses in a hospital each day is 125.1
</p>

This will set your text to the right font-face, the right size, color, and line-height for legibility. You'll need to apply the same kind of paragraph tag to each of the text blocks in your table cells in order for those to be styled properly as well.

Hopefully this helps! Good luck.

Re: Why is my table font automatically changing to Times New Roman?

i found any copy pasting of code from anywhere causes all sorts of havoc. only time my emaisl stay the same is if i actually just type in the copy to table directly and use the editor to pick font.

That's helpful - thank you! I cleared the formatting and that helped. It let me customize the font from there!
